Blizzard Beach Freezes Operations, Ticket Sales Paused Until Reopening

Walt Disney World’s Blizzard Beach water park will remain closed from Monday, December 2, through Wednesday, December 4, 2024, as Central Florida experiences an unusually cold spell. Daytime highs are only reaching the low to mid-60s, while nighttime lows are dropping into the low 40s, creating conditions far from ideal for water park fun.

Weather.com forecasts a high of just 65°F and a low of 43°F on Monday. Tuesday and Wednesday will remain brisk, with highs of 63°F and 68°F, and overnight lows dipping to 41°F and 46°F, respectively. While slightly warmer weather is predicted for later this week, Disney has made the decision to temporarily shutter the park for guest safety and comfort.

What Blizzard Beach Has to Offer

Blizzard Beach stands out for its imaginative design, which creates the illusion of a snow-covered ski resort turned into a water park. It’s home to adrenaline-pumping attractions like Summit Plummet, a nearly vertical slide for thrill-seekers, and Downhill Double Dipper, a dual-racing waterslide. Families love Teamboat Springs, one of the world’s longest family raft rides, and the gentle flow of the Cross Country Creek lazy river. There’s also Tike’s Peak, a playful splash zone designed for younger guests.

Unfortunately, all of these attractions will remain unavailable until the park reopens, currently scheduled for Thursday, December 5.

Options for Guests with Tickets

For those who planned to visit Blizzard Beach during the closure, Disney offers flexibility:

  • Rescheduling Visits: Guests can hold onto their tickets and use them on another day. Blizzard Beach is expected to reopen later this week, provided the weather cooperates.
  • Refund Requests: If a new visit isn’t possible, guests can request a full refund for their unused tickets. Disney Guest Services is ready to assist with these arrangements.

No Open Water Parks at Disney This Week

Blizzard Beach’s closure leaves Walt Disney World without any operational water parks early this week, as Typhoon Lagoon is currently undergoing its annual refurbishment. Over at Universal Orlando Resort, Volcano Bay has also announced its closure through Thursday, December 5, citing the same chilly weather.

Volcano Bay, known for its lush tropical setting and the innovative TapuTapu wearable technology, typically runs on a seasonal schedule. Its closure highlights how winter weather can disrupt even the best-laid plans for theme park visitors in Central Florida.

Seasonal Closures Aren’t Uncommon

Florida’s water parks often close during the winter season due to fluctuating temperatures. While most water parks are equipped with heated pools and slides, guest comfort and safety take precedence when the weather turns unexpectedly cold.

As the forecast predicts warmer days later this week, Blizzard Beach visitors can soon enjoy their favorite snow-covered water attractions under sunnier skies. For updates on park operations and ticket inquiries, Disney encourages guests to visit their official website or contact Guest Services.
