Some guests staying at Universal Orlando Resort recently got a surprise they probably weren’t expecting during their vacation.
As Universal continues preparing for the debut of its new nighttime spectacular at Epic Universe, fireworks testing lit up the sky above Celestial Park, creating a show that could be seen from nearby hotel rooms. While theme park fans are excited about the upcoming entertainment offering, the testing appears to have delivered an early wake-up call for at least a few visitors.
Videos shared on social media showed fireworks testing taking place near Epic Universe ahead of the official launch of Universal Celestial Goodnight. The footage was reportedly captured from Universal Helios Grand Hotel, the flagship hotel overlooking Epic Universe and Celestial Park.

The testing is part of Universal’s final preparations for the new nighttime spectacular, which is scheduled to debut on July 7. Once it launches, the show will serve as the official end-of-night experience for guests visiting Epic Universe.
For many fans, the arrival of a nighttime spectacular has been a long time coming.
When Epic Universe opened in 2025, guests quickly praised its attractions, immersive lands, and impressive design. However, one of the most common observations was that the park lacked a major nighttime finale. Unlike other destination theme parks in Central Florida, Epic Universe closed each evening without a signature fireworks production bringing the day to a close.
Universal is now changing that. Universal Celestial Goodnight will combine synchronized fountains, lighting effects, original music, and fireworks into a large-scale production centered within Celestial Park. The experience will also feature moments inspired by the park’s themed worlds, including SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, Dark Universe, How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic.
The scope of the production appears significant. Universal has revealed that the show will utilize hundreds of fountains, hundreds of synchronized lighting fixtures, and millions of LED lights throughout the park before concluding with a fireworks finale.
That level of technology requires extensive testing, which explains why guests have started spotting fireworks in the weeks leading up to opening night.
While some hotel guests may have preferred a few extra hours of sleep, others likely enjoyed receiving an unexpected preview of one of Epic Universe’s newest additions.
The testing also serves as another reminder that Epic Universe continues to evolve. Even though the park has been operating for more than a year, Universal is still adding new experiences and expanding the resort’s entertainment lineup.
Come July 7, those early-morning booms will transform into one of the most anticipated nighttime experiences in Orlando.
