An Abandoned Animal Kingdom Attraction Is Hiding in Plain Sight

Six years ago, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park quietly closed a decades-old interactive experience…but never removed it from guest view. The “Song of the Rainforest” attraction, once an engaging way for families to learn about the importance of rainforest conservation, is no longer operational, but you can still spot its remnants if you know where to look.

Located within the Conservation Station in the Rafiki’s Planet Watch area, the Walt Disney World Resort attraction allowed guests to experience a rainforest setting with sounds of nature and environmental conservation information shared by Grandmother Willow from Pocahontas (1995). However, the experience was closed in 2018 as part of a larger renovation to the Rafiki’s Planet Watch area. While the area has since been reimagined, many physical parts of “Song of the Rainforest” remain behind.

Reddit user u/Alllllllrighty__Then recently shared an image from a visit to the Conservation Station, showing several closed doors leading to the former attraction. Some doors were blocked by stanchions, while others were accessible but locked. These doors once led to a dark booth, where guests could sit and experience nature sounds played through headphones while learning about the environmental significance of rainforests.

One user claimed to know why the Disney Park attraction shut down.

“Used to be supplied with nature sounds stored on PC,” said Reddit user u/Mammoth_Junket321. “Said PC went down and there was no backup. Instead of recreating the tracks, the area was closed and eventually just darkened (this was prior to the animation station drawing classes).”

While the attraction is no longer active, some Disney Parks fans still look back fondly on the experience.

“That show was amazing,” u/Automatic-Maybe8207 wrote. “…You would hear sounds of the rainforest or you would hear ocean sounds such a great quiet cool spot. I’m so sad it’s gone.”

Loved going into those back in the day,” u/BobTheCrakhead replied.

For others, the attraction had simply run its course.

“It was outdated and basically not used,” u/cvaska commented. “Arguably any money was too much to spend on it.”

Although the “Song of the Rainforest” attraction has officially closed since 2018, parts of the interactive experience remain in plain sight at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park.
