Amid Speculation, Disney World Makes Its Decision on Future of ‘Star Wars’ Ride

Disney World is constantly evolving, and with 2025 just around the corner, several attractions across the parks are undergoing changes that guests should be aware of. Whether it’s temporary closures for refurbishment or long-term reimaginings, Disney is making adjustments to enhance the overall guest experience.

One of the recent changes took place at Disney’s Hollywood Studios with Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. The attraction briefly tested a modified single-rider line that allowed groups of two to ride together, rather than just individuals. However, Disney has now reverted the ride back to a solo single-rider queue, leaving fans wondering if the experiment will return in the future. Smugglers Run remains a must-do experience, giving guests the chance to pilot the famous ship in a fully immersive adventure.

Over at EPCOT, one of the most talked-about closures is Test Track. The beloved attraction is undergoing a significant overhaul to bring fresh design elements and improved technology to the ride. The refurbishment aims to enhance the guest experience while maintaining the attraction’s signature high-speed thrills. Disney has yet to announce an exact reopening date, but anticipation is high for what’s to come.

Magic Kingdom is also seeing several closures in 2025. Astro Orbiter, the spinning rocket attraction that gives riders a bird’s-eye view of Tomorrowland, is currently closed. This temporary shutdown is part of routine maintenance and updates to keep the ride in top condition. Additionally, the Walt Disney World Railroad, which has been out of operation for quite some time, continues to remain closed with no set reopening date. The absence of this classic attraction has left many fans hoping for its return soon. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is another major ride that will be unavailable for a refurbishment aimed at ensuring it remains a thrilling experience for years to come.

Meanwhile, Disney’s Animal Kingdom is preparing for big changes with the transformation of Dinoland U.S.A. into a new Tropical Americas-themed land. This update will introduce characters from Encanto and Indiana Jones, bringing fresh experiences to the park.

While closures can be disappointing for guests planning their trips, they are a necessary part of keeping Disney World fresh and exciting. As 2025 unfolds, visitors can look forward to returning favorites and exciting new additions that continue to make Disney World a top destination for magical experiences.
