An early morning stroll turned into a thrilling encounter for a guest at Disney’s Port Orleans French Quarter Resort, who spotted a large alligator just past the boat dock near Building 2.

Alligators at Disney are rare but not unheard of sight to see due to the fact that Walt Disney World Resort is built on swampland. Sightings of alligators in these areas, such as the Seven Seas Lagoon at Walt Disney World Resort, have been reported many times.

Instances like the tragic alligator attack on Lane Graves, the 2-year-old who was dragged into the water near Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort, highlighted the importance of coexisting safely with Florida wildlife, including being mindful of alligator populations and the need for responsible interactions near waterways on Disney property.

Now, this latest sighting has once again raised fears among fans who fear these dangerous animals.

Alligator Seen Walking on Land Near Disney Resort

The incident occurred around 6 a.m., when the guest, enjoying a peaceful walk along the riverside path of Port Orlean’s French Quarter, noticed the unexpected reptile lounging on the grass between the walkway and the guest rooms. Initially mistaking the alligator for a statue, the guest quickly realized it was very much alive—and sizable. The guest shared:

“Saw this gator at 6 AM today at Port Orlean’s French Quarter, just past the boat dock. Right next to building 2, on the grass between the path along the river and the walkway of guest rooms. I walked the path by the pool just to get a view of the resort.

Pardon the awful quality. When I spotted it, I zoomed as far as I could to see if I somehow missed a gator statue on the grass at the resort 😂. It was, in fact, a real (and big) alligator. I took this while taking off in a sprint 😅

The grounds staff on a golf cart must have seen me get startled and making a bee line down another path near the pool because they quickly went driving over where I was coming from. I’m assuming that scared it off because by the time I sprinted to my room (along the water of building 1), it was gone.

Thought it was interesting. This was a first for me!”

The guest also shared an image of the alligator, and while it is hard to see, quests can make out the shape of the large animal’s body. Thankfully, no one was hurt during this encounter.

If you see any wild animal while at Disney, it is best to keep a safe distance and report the sighting to a cast member if necessary.
