When planning for a trip to Walt Disney World, a lot of thought goes into being prepared for a good trip. Make sure you are ready for rain; sun is all part of the packing process. What most of us don’t plan for is poor air quality.

According to AirNow.gov, the current air quality as of 3:00 p.m. EST was listed as “unhealthy.” Looking at the Air Quality Index (AQI) for the Orlando, Florida area, the site is listed at 154, putting it in the red or “unhealthy” category.

The primary pollutants that are a concern in the area seem to be fine particles. A moderate AQI of 59 is also a particle in dust and smoke known as PM10.

The combination of these two pollutants being higher than usual can cause concerns for those in the area.

Steps to Take

If you are in Walt Disney World, there are some suggestions on how to keep yourself and others safe when more air quality is a concern.

According to AirNow.gov the main concern is for those people with previous conditions such as heart or lung disease. Older adults, children, and teens should also take precautions to reduce exposure.

The steps suggested are:

  • Avoid strenuous outdoor activities.
  • Keep outdoor activities short.
  • Consider moving physical activities indoors or rescheduling them.

Everyone else – take any of these steps to reduce your exposure:

  • Choose less strenuous activities (like walking instead of running) so you don’t breathe as hard.
  • Shorten the amount of time you are active outdoors.
  • Be active outdoors when air quality is better.

These conditions are being caused by the wildfires happening in Canada. Even though it is 2,000 miles away, those in Walt Disney World are still being impacted.

Impact on Walt Disney World

Hazy conditions will be experienced in Walt Disney World over the next few days. Guests might notice this as they travel throughout the Walt Disney World Resort.

There could also be less rain in the area during the next few days, which is unusual for this time of year at Walt Disney World.

As the week continues, Florida’s air quality is supposed to improve. Until then, be aware of the conditions using a weather app or checking out the local news. This will keep you in the know.

Other Weather Conditions

When traveing to Walt Disney World, it is always important to be prepared for the weather. Plan for rain, heat, and humidity during your trip. These three elements can have a significant impact on your overall vacation experience.

When packing, make sure you bring along rain gear and items to keep you cool. Many guests enjoy having personal fans, cooling towels, and water bottles during the summer months at Disney.

It can be hard to prepare for all the elements that can show up during a Walt Disney World vacation. If you head in prepared for those you can plan for, you will be much less stressed in the long run.

About Jennifer Retzlaff

My name is Jennifer Retzlaff and I became a lifelong Disney fan during my first trip to Walt Disney World in 6th grade. From that moment, Disney became a big part of my life. I live in Iowa with my husband and two kids who are growing up too quickly for my liking. I started introducing my love for Disney early to my family with a Disney honeymoon and then trips when our youngest of 18 months. Since then, our family has been to Walt Disney World over five times and we continue to plan and dream for the next trip. I love the magic that Disney brings to people through the theme parks, cruises, adventures and movies they create. As a teacher, I try to bring that magic into my classroom to help kids believe that “If You Can Dream It, You Can Do It.” I recently reached a dream of mine as I joined Magic Vacation Planner as a personal travel advisor. With this team, I can now help others plan magical vacations. As a passionate writer, I also have my own blog at magicalvacationsbyjen which is also where you can follow me on instagram for trip reviews along with tips and tricks for your next magical vacation.
