After Two Months of Closure, Disneyland California Welcomes Back Select Guests
After a two-month wait, Disneyland Resort has reopened one of its most exclusive Southern California theme park entrances.
On Monday, May 12, 2025, Disney California Adventure Park’s entrance near Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa officially reopened to guests. This entrance had been temporarily closed for upgrades to the park’s turnstile system, and now, guests staying at the Grand Californian can once again use this convenient entry point to access the Disney park.
The much-anticipated reopening follows a significant upgrade, where the old metal turnstiles were replaced with high-tech “tapstiles” featuring touchless gates, digital screens, and facial recognition technology. These new gates are part of a larger effort by Disneyland Resort to streamline entry into the parks, which began in late 2024. The upgrades are being implemented in phases to minimize disruptions to guest experiences.
While the reopening of the Grand Californian entrance is exciting news for hotel guests, it comes with a downside for some visitors. On the same day this entrance reopened, the Pixar Place Hotel entrance to Disney California Adventure Park closed for its own turnstile upgrades. Guests staying at Pixar Place Hotel are now directed to use alternative entrances until mid-June, when the entrance will be reopened.
Disneyland Resort cast members are using tablets and mobile devices to scan guests’ tickets as the new “tapstiles” are fully rolled out. The upgrades are expected to be fully functional by 2025, offering a faster and more efficient entry process for all Disney Park guests.
