After Firing, ABC News Journalist Declares Anti-Trump Tweet ‘Accurate and True’
Terry Moran, a veteran ABC News journalist with nearly three decades of experience, has found himself at the center of controversy after a tweet he posted in early June 2025 led to his suspension and eventual firing. The tweet, which attacked Donald Trump and his Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, sparked outrage and led ABC News to sever ties with the long-time reporter.

Despite this fallout, Moran is standing by his words, defending his tweet as both “accurate and true.”
The incident began with a tweet posted just after midnight on June 8. Moran, who had just conducted an interview with Trump in April, lashed out at both the president and Miller, calling them “world-class haters” and criticizing Trump for what he described as “spiritual nourishment” derived from self-glorification.
The thing about Stephen Miller is not that he is the brains behind Trumpism. Yes, he is one of the people who conceptualizes the impulses of the Trumpist movement and translates them into policy. But that’s not what’s interesting about Miller. It’s not brains. It’s bile. Miller is a man who is richly endowed with the capacity for hatred. He’s a world-class hater. You can see this just by looking at him because you can see that his hatreds are his spiritual nourishment. He eats his hate. Trump is a world-class hater. But his hatred only a means to an end, and that end his his own glorification. That’s his spiritual nourishment.

The tweet sent shockwaves through the media world, and news outlets quickly picked up the story. However, Moran’s tweet wasn’t up for long— it was deleted shortly after it was posted.
Despite its brief life online, the tweet quickly escalated, leading to ABC News suspending Moran and launching an internal investigation. For a journalist with nearly thirty years of experience, this was a shocking turn of events. Moran had once been ABC’s Chief White House Correspondent and later its Senior National Correspondent.
His lengthy tenure at the network had earned him respect, but his controversial tweet was about to put all of that at risk.
Despite the consequences, Moran insists he does not regret his actions. In a conversation with Tim Miller from The Bulwark, he defended the tweet as not just an opinion but a reflection of reality.
You don’t sacrifice your citizenship as a journalist, and your job is not to be objective. There is no Mount Olympus of objectivity where a Mandarin class of wise people have no feelings about their society. We’re all in this together. What you have to be is fair and accurate, and I would refer to the interview with the president that I did, or a lot of my work. And I would also say that this, while very hot, is an observation, a description that was accurate and true.
A few days after Moran’s suspension, ABC News announced that he had been fired. In their statement, the network emphasized that it “stands for objectivity and impartiality” and that Moran’s tweet violated these standards.

However, Moran remains unrepentant, steadfast in his belief that he was simply speaking the truth.
“I’m old enough to remember and, you know, get practical things done that people need in a decent way, and stand up for what’s right. And that is my politics. So someone like Stephen Miller, in my judgment, and in my observation, which is what reporters do, is degrading all that and is a danger, and that is what was in my heart.”

This controversy is not just about a single tweet. It also highlights the complicated relationship between the media and Donald Trump. The president has long accused ABC News and other mainstream outlets of being biased and unfair. His repeated demands for ABC’s CEO Bob Iger to fire anyone working at the network have been well-documented.
Yet, despite these attacks, Trump continues to appear on ABC programs like This Week with George Stephanopoulos and has even participated in exclusive interviews with veteran reporters such as Stephanopoulos and Terry Moran.
In an unexpected turn of events, Moran was not the only ABC personality to face scrutiny over controversial statements about Trump.
Just months earlier, George Stephanopoulos, another ABC anchor, had faced backlash for calling Trump a “rapist” during an interview, which turned out to be inaccurate. ABC News was forced to pay millions of dollars in a defamation settlement, though Stephanopoulos’ contract was renewed soon after.
Moran’s firing has sparked further debate. Some have argued that ABC’s actions were hypocritical, given that other prominent ABC anchors, like Stephanopoulos, have made similarly charged comments about Trump without facing such severe consequences. Others argue that ABC was simply upholding its editorial standards and that Moran’s tweet crossed a line.
In the wake of his firing, Moran has kept a low profile, but his social media presence has remained active. He took to his newly created Substack account to continue sharing his thoughts on politics and media. Despite the controversy surrounding his tweet, Moran has maintained that he will continue to speak his truth, unafraid of the consequences.
What do you think? Was ABC justified in firing Moran for his tweet, or was it an overreaction? Do you believe journalists should maintain a strict sense of objectivity, or is it acceptable for them to express their personal opinions? We’d love to hear your thoughts on this ongoing debate. . Those two can’t handle the truth. All are typical bullies. ABC needs to wise up and stand up and not bend to what is going on. True reporting is needed. Tell it like it is, even if they don’t like it.
Where is there reporters any more if there was then way didn’t we get the truth about obiden and kamalina and all crup congress people on both sides and that a leftist peaceful protest is burning a city block.start telling the truth.
I stand with Moran and Stephanopoulos. Freedom of the Press! If they are going to be sued for libel they can fight that too, but don’t fire them, especially if their statements are not on their TV shows.
Shocked that I agree with two posts on this site!!!!
ABC and Disney should be ashamed of being cowardly.
Truth is the only way.
Get your facts straight before you interview someone and you won’t be sued. It’s that simple.
Moran is a stand-up man and journalist. I stand with him. ABC is pathetic for bowing to Trump. Not much I can do except never watch ABC again.
Whether true or not, and it was not, it was wildly inappropriate for a news figure. Report the news. Not whether you like or don’t like a public figure. No wonder the majority of the public does not believe the legacy media or trust them, or watch them any more
Since when does a reporter get fired for commenting on a US President. Presidents over the years have always been under fire from the press, they’re not always the most popular president but other than him (Trump) they deal with it. Why does he always have to have the last word, which is normally WRONG. If reporters have to be careful of what they say, it’s going to be one sided interviews & Trump is going to look like the new coming of Christ. Everything GOOD that happens he takes credit for.it. He’s rude and no class.
Terry didn’t make his comments in a news broadcast it was on social media, Trump is always making comments on social media, at one point we were hoping they would take down his social media accounts.
