After Box Office Struggles, Snow White Live-Action Remake Heads to Streaming Next Week
Disney has announced that its live-action remake of Snow White, starring Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot, will be available for digital purchase starting May 13. This news comes shortly after the movie’s disappointing performance at the box office. While the film’s theatrical release garnered $200.5 million globally, it still fell short of expectations, especially given its $270 million production cost. However, Disney is now focusing on the home entertainment market to continue the movie’s journey.
“Snow White” Live-Action Adaptation to Debut on Digital May 13
On May 13, Snow White will be available for digital purchase on platforms like Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home. Along with the digital release, Disney will also release the film on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD starting June 24. The physical versions will come with several bonus features, including bloopers, deleted scenes, behind-the-scenes featurettes, and a full-length sing-along version of the movie.
Despite the rough reception at the box office, with a $42.2 million opening weekend, Snow White continues its rollout with a strong emphasis on bonus content for home audiences. Directed by Marc Webb, the film faced several production challenges, including reshoots, a fire on set, labor strikes, and controversy surrounding comments made by Zegler. These elements, coupled with an underwhelming box office performance, have made the film’s path to success a challenging one.

A New Chapter for ‘Snow White’
Fans who purchase the digital or physical versions will get a deeper look at the movie through the special content included. While Disney has yet to announce when the film will arrive on Disney+, this latest move reflects the company’s effort to keep Snow White accessible to viewers beyond the theater. Whether this strategy will help the film recover from its theatrical shortcomings remains to be seen.
