ABC Fires Longtime Reporter for Blasting Trump in Explosive Twitter Post
Terry Moran, a veteran reporter with ABC News, has found himself in the midst of a storm after posting a controversial tweet about former President Donald Trump. The social media post, which Moran quickly deleted, was seen as crossing the line when it came to journalistic objectivity, ultimately costing him his long-standing career at ABC.
Moran, who has been a familiar face at ABC News since 1998, was fired following an incident in early June 2025. The situation escalated after he shared a tweet calling Trump and his deputy, Stephen Miller, “world-class haters.”

In the post, Moran claimed that Miller’s “spiritual nourishment” came from hate, while Trump’s was “his own glorification.” Though the tweet was deleted shortly after it was posted, the damage was done.
The backlash was swift. ABC News announced Moran’s suspension shortly after the tweet, expressing that the remarks violated the network’s standards of impartiality. The network, which prides itself on delivering unbiased reporting, was clear in its response.
A spokesperson for ABC stated:
At ABC News, we hold all of our reporters to the highest standards of objectivity, fairness, and professionalism, and we remain committed to delivering straightforward, trusted journalism.

ABC confirmed that the network would not be renewing Moran’s contract, effectively ending his tenure with the company. Per a statement to Entertainment Weekly:
“We are at the end of our agreement with Terry Moran and based on his recent post — which was a clear violation of ABC News policies — we have made the decision to not renew.”
“At ABC News, we hold all of our reporters to the highest standards of objectivity, fairness and professionalism, and we remain committed to delivering straightforward, trusted journalism,” the statement continued.

While this marked the end of his time with ABC News, Moran has indicated that he plans to continue reporting in some capacity. The veteran journalist announced on social media that he would be moving to Substack, a platform for independent content creators.
In his announcement, Moran stated:
“I was a reporter and anchor for ABC News. And as you may have heard … I’m not there anymore.
Now I’m on Substack, that amazing space, and I can’t wait to get into the important work that we all have to do.”

Moran’s firing came not long after ABC had dealt with another high-profile incident involving its star anchor, George Stephanopoulos. In 2024, Stephanopoulos had made headlines when he referred to Donald Trump as “liable for rape” during an interview, which sparked significant controversy.
Despite this, Stephanopoulos faced no repercussions and even had his contract renewed after ABC paid $15 million to Donald Trump’s presidential fund. This discrepancy in ABC’s handling of the two journalists’ actions has led many to question the network’s consistency in enforcing its policies.
For those unfamiliar, Moran has a storied career. He served as the White House Chief News Correspondent for ABC News before becoming one of the network’s most respected anchors. His deep experience and high-profile interviews, including one with Trump in April 2025, made him a key figure in the network’s coverage. However, this most recent incident has overshadowed his past accomplishments.
Now, as Moran transitions to a new platform, his future in journalism remains uncertain. He has stated that while it will take him a little time to adjust to this new phase, he is committed to continuing his work. His departure from ABC News marks the end of an era, but it also signals the beginning of a new chapter in his career. Moran’s followers are eager to see what he will bring to the world of independent media.
What do you think? Was ABC justified in firing Terry Moran over his tweet, or should the network have shown more leniency? Share your thoughts in the comments section below. Stay tuned for more updates on this unfolding story as Moran ventures into the world of independent reporting on Substack.
I believe ABC was very wrong. Terry is a professional and a great reporter. He will be sorely missed!!
Absolutely!
Very sad that free speech has come to this. He was saying what everyone else wants to say. Doesn’t say a lot to me about ABC. I will think twice about watching your stations and Disney. You have kneeled down to a dictator. Shame on you.
Shame on ABC! Moran simply told the truth, what needed to be said. Is free speech only for those who support Donald Trump?
Think Germany, 1939. Wake up, ABC!!
ABC is no longer an honest respected new organization. They have bowed down to a criminal traitor. I can’t do much to stop them so I will do the only thing I can. I will NEVER watch another show on ABC. You are a disgrace, and you will go down a disgrace when history is written.
ABC was wrong in firing Terry Moran. I have watched ABC news my whole life but it makes me want to boycott them. Free speech is an American right. It is so sad that it has come to this. America is living under a dictator. Our fathers and forefathers fought for our freedom and freedom of speech. It is slowly being taken away. Soon America won’t be the home of the free.
Shame on ABC and Disney. Trump can say whatever he wants about anybody. So we should only have news based on his side of issues?
