A Sneak Peek at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Walt Disney World

As part of the 30th Anniversary Media Event at Disney’s Hollywood Studios we were given a sneak peek at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. We were not allowed to take pictures, and we did not see the whole new land. We walked past the entrance and then we walked to a barrier. We were still well within the new land, and we could see quite a bit. Let me tell you, it is going to be amazing!

One thing that struck me about Galaxy’s Edge is that you will not need to be a Star Wars fan in order to enjoy it. The planet of Batuu is not one that you have seen in the movies or the animated series. If you are not a Star Wars fan, you will still be able to get a lot of out it. You won’t feel lost.

That said, I am a huge Star Wars fan. I have been since the beginning. I can tell you right now that I will not be disappointed by Galaxy’s Edge. The new land has a Star Wars feel, even without being a well known planet.

Of course not being well known is part of the idea. You are supposed to be entering a haven for smugglers and those who do not want to be found. It’s a place where you should not expect to find the First Order.

Speaking of the First Order, we could see the construction on the Rise of the Resistance attraction. This thing is going to be massive. For anyone who is hoping that it will be up and operational by opening day on August 29, it won’t be. There is still a lot of work that needs to be done.

Most of the area was still a construction zone, which is why we were not allowed too far in. We could not see the Millennium Falcon from where we were, but we could see some of the buildings that are near it. The buildings do feel like you’re in a spaceport in Star Wars. I’ve been looking at the tops of these buildings from Toy Story Land since June, it was nice to have a different perspective.

One thing that was stressed to us is that Galaxy’s Edge is going to be different for everyone. It’s going to be about more than just the two new rides. Every inch is going to feel like you are in a different galaxy. From the Cast Member costumes to the merchandise sold in the shops to the blue milk, you will be able to finally live out you own Star Wars adventure. I, for one, cannot wait.

About PaulaK

I grew up in Western Massachusetts. When I was nine my family went to Disneyland and I was hooked. I grew up, attended New England College in Henniker, NH and eventually moved to Virginia. I worked as a disc jockey, married and became a full time mom when our daughter was born. Fast forward several years. In 2010 we moved to Central Florida and my Disney obsession grew. I now work as a freelance writer and spend my spare time in the parks. Under the name Paula Brown I penned the novels Dream Wanderers and The Coffee Cruiser. I also am a co-author of Dining at Walt Disney World: The Definitive Guide. I'm obsessed with Star Wars, so this is a good time to live in Central Florida. I've been a vegetarian for well over a decade, a choice that my daughter eventually made as well. While my husband still hasn't joined us fully he has given up most meats except for seafood. I was relieved to find that vegetarian dining is not difficult at Walt Disney World.
