A Dad’s Guide To Walt Disney World

Credit: Disney

What should a Dad know before stepping foot into WDW? Whatever type of dad you are, there are so many ways to enjoy your time at Disney with your family! Which describes your ideal Walt Disney World Vacation?

1. The Sports Dad

Walt Disney World has 4 world-class, 18-hole golf courses. They also have mini golf for those who need the extra time with their younger children and enjoy yelling โ€œforeโ€ more often than they care to admit. The ESPN Zone at Disneyโ€™s Boardwalk is a great way to keep up with your favorite sports team. You can even watch a spring training game or the Pro Bowl festivities at ESPNโ€™s Wide World of Sports Complex. Into basketball? Check out the NBA Experience at Disney Springs.

2. The Outdoors Dad

There are so many amazing outdoor activities at Walt Disney World. You can enjoy fishing dockside at Port Orleans Riverside or take an elite fishing excursion. Kayaks and motorized boats are available for rent at multiple locations throughout property. Campfire and sโ€™mores before bedtime can be enjoyed at Fort Wilderness campground.

3. The Adrenaline Dad

According to the guys in my family, guys love thrill rides. Walt Disney World sure has its share. From the tame to the wild, the thrills at Disney will satisfy dads of all ages. Big Thunder Mountain, Splash Mountain, Space Mountain, Expedition Everest, Kali River Rapids, Tower of Terror, Rock n Roller Coaster, Avatar Flight of Passage, Test Track and Soarinโ€™ all make them smile from ear to Mickey ears. Guys also love the action and excitement of Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular at Hollywood Studios. It is a thrilling experience, and it is pretty cool to learn how they create all of that movie magic. The show also has plenty of humor that will be loved!

4. โ€œMay the Force Be With Youโ€ Dad

There is a strong presence of the force at Hollywood Studiosโ€ฆ the Star Wars force! Hollywood Studiosโ€™ newest land, Star Wars: Galaxyโ€™s Edge, is the place to be! Get ready to take a ride in the Millennium Falcon and Rise of the Resistance to explore a world from another galaxy. Check out Hollywood Studiosโ€™ Star Tours attraction, Star Wars Launch Bay, and the incredible nighttime experience โ€“ Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular.

5. The Competitive Dad

Yep dads should head to the Magic Kingdom where a round of competition can begin at Toy Story Mania. Tomorrowland is home to Buzz Lightyearโ€™s Space Ranger Spin where guests are called to join Star Command to help defeat the Evil Emperor Zurg. Guys can grab special blasters and take aim at targets designed to steal power from Zurg, and the end results will declare who got the high score and bragging rights for the rest of the night.

6. The Food Dad

Everyone loves a good steak, right?  First up is Le Cellier Steakhouse in Epcot’s World Showcase in the Canada Pavilion. Start with the charcuterie, an appetizer made up of handcrafted meats, house pickles, and grilled sourdough bread then choose from an Angus New York Strip, a Seared Canadian Bison Strip Loin, the Le Cellier Filet Mignon, or the Black Angus Boneless Rib-Eye. Be sure to save room for the Chocolate Whisky Trifle! And then there is Disney’s Yacht Club Resort. Their charcuterie board includes Ibรฉrico de Bellota, Bison Sausage, Saucisson en Brioche, and Rabbit. Donโ€™t eat too much, though, because the entrees here are incredible! From the 32 oz. Porterhouse for two with potato gratin and 21-day dry-aged garlic butter to the Bison Strip loin with BBQ sauce, roasted baby beets, and macaroni and cheese bites, youโ€™re sure to find something here that will make up for the two hours spent at Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique.

7. The Fad Dad

The Harmony Barber Shop, located on Main Street, USA, is simply magical even for grown men. Whatโ€™s not to love? The haircuts here (an entire menu of services including Adult haircuts) come sprinkled with Disney whimsy, and you may even get treated to the musical talents of Disneyโ€™s very own quartet called The Dapper Dans. Sign up for an entertaining haircut! You wonโ€™t regret the trimming youโ€™ll get here!

8. The Adventure/History Dad

Want to see how the magic happens? Disney World offers several behind the scenes experiences for every adventure level. For the active traveler, you can venture out into the wild at Animal Kingdom on a guided expedition for an even closer look at the parkโ€™s wildlife. Or go off-roading on a Segway at Disneyโ€™s Fort Wilderness Lodge. For foodies, take the Behind the Seeds tour at Epcotโ€™s The Land to see how Disney farmers create Mickey-shaped produce. And history buffs will love the Keys to the Kingdom Tour. This five-hour walking tour goes behind the design of the Magic Kingdom and includes tons of little-known Disney trivia.

9. The Jokester Dad

Most dads believes that laughter is the best medicine so take him to the Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor at Magic Kingdom. This interactive comedy show is hosted by the one-and-only Mike Wazowski. Before the show begins, your dad will have a chance to submit his best joke by sending it through a text message. It could be used later in the show! For an extra special experience, consider the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue. This zany two-hour show features singing, dancing and comedy. Best of all, you can eat buckets of fried chicken and smoked BBQ ribs, as well as salad, baked beans, cornbread and strawberry shortcake while you enjoy the show.

10. The Tech Dad

Disney is all about innovation and uses the latest technology to build new attractions. For the dad who likes keeping up with the most recent techie trends, youโ€™ll want to hop on Avatar Flight of Passage at Pandora in Animal Kingdom. During this incredibly immersive 3-D simulation ride, you feel like youโ€™re flying on a banshee. You can even feel it โ€œbreathingโ€ underneath you at one point. Itโ€™s definitely one of my familyโ€™s top favorite rides in ALL of Disney World, and itโ€™s sure to impress any tech-savvy dad! I also recommend stopping by The VOID in Disney Springs for a VR experience. Guests become part of the virtual environment, which includes multi-sensory effects such as touch and smell. Help the Star Wars Rebellion on a survival mission or, join Wreck-It Ralph and Vanellope von Schweetz for the ultimate food fight adventure.
