Disney World Guests Face 10 Major Changes Before Thanksgiving 2026

Thanksgiving is almost here, and Walt Disney World is making some significant adjustments that could affect thousands of families heading to Orlando this November.

From major attraction closures to shortened park days and unexpected changes to seasonal entertainment, visitors may discover that their carefully planned vacations need a few adjustments.

Some of these developments will give guests more opportunities to enjoy the parks, while others could leave families disappointed after spending months preparing for their trips.

With Thanksgiving arriving on November 26, here are 10 major Disney World changes visitors should prepare for before heading through the park gates.

1. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Is Officially Closed

Magic Kingdom has lost one of its newer attractions just weeks before Thanksgiving.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure officially closed on November 2 for an extended refurbishment that will keep the Frontierland attraction unavailable for more than six weeks.

Disney currently plans to reopen the ride on December 18, meaning Thanksgiving visitors won’t have an opportunity to experience the attraction.

The closure also removes a popular thrill ride from Magic Kingdom during an especially busy travel period.

As Disney Dining previously reported, the attraction even experienced operational difficulties on November 1, its final scheduled day before the refurbishment.

For guests who were hoping to experience Tiana’s Bayou Adventure for the first time, another vacation will be necessary.

2. Magic Kingdom Is Closing Early for Christmas Parties

Another major adjustment involves Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, which officially begins November 8.

The separately ticketed celebration returns on select evenings through December 22, bringing holiday entertainment, festive character experiences, and special fireworks to Magic Kingdom.

However, guests without party tickets must leave the park by 6 p.m. on event nights.

That means visitors who purchase regular daytime admission won’t be able to enjoy a full evening inside Magic Kingdom.

The situation becomes especially complicated around Thanksgiving, when the Christmas party takes place on November 24, 25, and 27.

Disney has already confirmed sellouts for popular Thanksgiving-week Christmas party dates, making last-minute planning even more difficult.

3. Disney World Is Extending Park Hours

Fortunately, not every schedule adjustment means less time inside the parks.

Disney has expanded operating hours at Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom between November 22 and 28.

On Thanksgiving Day, Magic Kingdom is scheduled to operate from 8 a.m. until 11 p.m., giving families additional time to enjoy attractions and entertainment.

Animal Kingdom also receives later closing times on select dates, while Hollywood Studios benefits from earlier openings.

EPCOT’s schedule remains unchanged.

These adjustments follow additional November operating hour extensions as Disney prepares for increasing holiday crowds.

Guests should continue monitoring park calendars because operating hours can change as Thanksgiving approaches.

4. Carousel of Progress Won’t Reopen Before Thanksgiving

Another Magic Kingdom favorite remains unavailable.

Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress closed on July 6 for a major refurbishment, and Disney doesn’t expect the Tomorrowland attraction to reopen until 2027.

The rotating theater has entertained generations of families with its look at technological advancements and changing American lifestyles.

Its extended closure removes a classic indoor experience from Magic Kingdom’s lineup.

Combined with the temporary shutdown of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, Thanksgiving visitors will find fewer attractions available than during previous holiday visits.

5. Hollywood Studios Guests Face Additional Early Closures

Disney’s Hollywood Studios is also preparing for schedule disruptions as Disney Jollywood Nights returns.

The separately ticketed Christmas celebration takes over the park on select evenings, including November 23 and 28.

Regular visitors must leave when Hollywood Studios closes for the event, while ticket holders can remain for exclusive entertainment until 12:30 a.m.

For families hoping to enjoy nighttime attractions and shows, choosing the wrong park date could mean losing several hours.

The event is another example of Disney World’s increasingly expensive Christmas entertainment offerings, with some seasonal experiences requiring additional admission beyond a standard park ticket.

6. Christmas Attraction Overlays Come With Restrictions

Several familiar Magic Kingdom attractions are receiving festive transformations, but there’s a catch.

Space Mountain, Tomorrowland Speedway, Mad Tea Party, and Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor feature special holiday enhancements during Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party.

Guests can expect seasonal music, lighting, and other changes that make these attractions feel different from their regular versions.

However, these experiences are generally exclusive to Christmas party attendees.

Jingle Cruise remains an exception, allowing daytime visitors to experience its holiday transformation without purchasing a party ticket.

For families wanting the complete Christmas attraction lineup, regular admission won’t cover everything.

7. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Gets a Christmas Makeover

Hollywood Studios visitors have something new to experience this November.

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets introduced its first holiday overlay on November 4.

The seasonal experience features music from The Electric Mayhem, along with festive changes to the attraction’s queue and preshow.

Unlike Magic Kingdom’s party-exclusive attraction overlays, this experience is available during regular operating hours.

The holiday version is scheduled to remain available through January 6, 2027.

That gives Thanksgiving visitors a new attraction experience without requiring another event ticket.

8. EPCOT’s Food & Wine Festival Is Ending

EPCOT visitors hoping to sample dishes from the International Food & Wine Festival will need to arrive before Thanksgiving week.

The popular festival officially concludes November 21, ending its seasonal food marketplaces and Eat to the Beat Concert Series.

For guests arriving November 22 or later, those festival experiences will no longer be available.

Although EPCOT’s permanent restaurants and attractions remain open, the temporary marketplaces and festival entertainment will disappear.

Families who planned their vacations around the festival should pay close attention to the final date.

9. EPCOT’s Christmas Festival Starts After Thanksgiving

There’s another scheduling complication at EPCOT.

The International Festival of the Holidays doesn’t begin until November 27, one day after Thanksgiving.

That creates a five-day gap between EPCOT’s two major seasonal festivals.

Guests visiting on Thanksgiving Day won’t be able to enjoy the holiday food kitchens, international storytellers, or Candlelight Processional.

The festival’s arrival also introduces additional holiday offerings for eligible Disney World Annual Passholders, including a limited seasonal dessert and collectible cup.

Visitors hoping to experience the full celebration should plan an EPCOT visit for November 27 or later.

10. Magic Kingdom Is Offering Rare Daytime Christmas Parade Performances

Finally, Disney is making a special exception to its usual Christmas parade schedule.

Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade will perform during regular Magic Kingdom operating hours on November 10 and 11.

Both performances are scheduled for 2 p.m., giving daytime visitors an opportunity to experience the parade without purchasing Christmas party tickets.

The performances coincide with preparations for Disney’s televised holiday programming.

However, Festival of Fantasy Parade will not perform on those dates.

For visitors who want to see Christmas entertainment without paying for another ticket, these limited daytime performances offer a rare opportunity.

Thanksgiving Guests Should Review Their Disney World Plans

Thanksgiving remains a popular time to visit Walt Disney World, but the 2026 season comes with several important adjustments.

Two major Magic Kingdom attractions are unavailable, separately ticketed Christmas parties are shortening regular park days, and EPCOT’s festival schedule creates an unusual gap around Thanksgiving.

Fortunately, extended operating hours and new holiday entertainment provide additional opportunities for families to enjoy their vacations.

With Disney World’s holiday offerings continuing to change, visitors should review attraction availability, event dates, and operating hours before arriving.

Are these Disney World changes making Thanksgiving vacations more exciting, or are the closures and additional ticket requirements becoming too much for families?
