Disney Park Confirms Stitch Attraction Closure, Guests Lose Access

Another Disney attraction has temporarily closed its doors.

Refurbishments are a regular occurrence at Disney’s theme parks, with attractions often taken out of operation for maintenance. While some closures last just a few days, others can leave popular experiences unavailable for weeks or even months.

For fans of Stitch, opportunities to experience the character at Disney parks are already somewhat limited. Walt Disney World offers character encounters at Magic Kingdom and ‘Ohana at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, while Disneyland Resort features occasional appearances by the blue alien.

Neither American resort currently operates an attraction dedicated to Stitch, despite the franchise’s recent success. Disney’s live-action Lilo & Stitch (2025) earned more than $1 billion worldwide, leading the company to announce a sequel.

Instead, some of Stitch’s most prominent theme park experiences are found overseas. However, one Disney resort has now confirmed that guests will lose access to an attraction featuring the character throughout November.

Disney Confirms Month-Long Closure of Stitch Encounter

Tokyo Disneyland has officially shut down Stitch Encounter, with the Tomorrowland attraction closing on November 2, 2026.

According to Tokyo Disney Resort’s refurbishment calendar, the attraction will remain closed through November 30. It is currently expected to resume operations on December 1, although Disney notes that refurbishment schedules are subject to change.

Stitch Encounter opened at Tokyo Disneyland on July 17, 2015, bringing an interactive experience featuring the Lilo & Stitch character to the park.

During the show, guests enter the Stitch Monitoring Station, where they can communicate with Stitch through a large screen. The alien speaks directly to audience members, responding to their questions and making jokes throughout the performance.

The experience lasts approximately 12 minutes and accommodates up to 163 guests per show. Conversations take place in Japanese, although guests don’t necessarily need to speak the language to enjoy watching Stitch interact with the audience.

Unlike a conventional theme park ride, Stitch Encounter relies on real-time interaction, meaning each performance can differ depending on the guests selected to participate.

However, those visiting Tokyo Disneyland throughout November will have to skip the attraction entirely.

The park’s operator, the Oriental Land Company, has not provided a specific explanation for the refurbishment. There is currently no indication that Stitch Encounter is receiving a major overhaul or that its closure will become permanent.

The attraction also remains listed on Tokyo Disney Resort’s official website, which identifies the shutdown as temporary.

This isn’t the first Stitch-themed attraction to close at Tokyo Disneyland in recent months.

The Enchanted Tiki Room: Stitch Presents “Aloha E Komo Mai!” underwent its own refurbishment between September 24 and October 23, 2026. Fortunately, that Adventureland show has since returned to operation.

Multiple Disney Attractions Remain Unavailable

Stitch Encounter isn’t the only attraction guests will find closed at Tokyo Disneyland this month.

Cinderella’s Fairy Tale Hall has been unavailable since October 1, 2026. The walkthrough attraction, located inside Cinderella Castle, features artwork, dioramas, and displays inspired by Disney’s animated Cinderella (1950).

Unlike Stitch Encounter, Cinderella’s Fairy Tale Hall currently has no confirmed reopening date.

The same is true of Swiss Family Treehouse, which has remained closed since April 1, 2022. More than four years later, Disney has yet to provide a reopening timeline for the Adventureland attraction.

Nearby Tokyo DisneySea is also undergoing several refurbishments. Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Crystal Skull remains closed through November 29, while Tower of Terror is scheduled to reopen after November 5.

DisneySea’s Mermaid Lagoon Theater has also been closed since July 2020, with no reopening date currently listed.

For Stitch fans, however, Tokyo Disneyland still has another option.

The Enchanted Tiki Room: Stitch Presents “Aloha E Komo Mai!” features the character interrupting a musical performance by tropical birds and flowers. The approximately 10-minute show has operated in its Stitch-themed form since 2008.

Elsewhere, Disneyland Paris offers Stitch Live!, another interactive attraction that allows guests to communicate with the character. Shanghai Disneyland has its own version of the experience, Space Chat with Stitch.

Walt Disney World previously offered a similar opportunity through Stitch’s Great Escape!, which opened at Magic Kingdom in 2004. The Tomorrowland attraction replaced ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter and featured Stitch escaping captivity during a chaotic theater presentation.

Disney reduced the attraction’s operating schedule in 2016 before closing it in January 2018. In 2020, the company confirmed that the shutdown was permanent.

No replacement Stitch attraction has opened at Magic Kingdom since then, leaving character encounters as the primary way to see the alien at Walt Disney World.

Tokyo Disneyland’s situation is different, with the resort confirming a defined closure period for Stitch Encounter rather than announcing its permanent removal.
