Few elements of Star Wars are as recognizable as John Williams’ music. His score helped give George Lucas’s original 1977 movie its distinctive identity, and soon, audiences will have the chance to hear his work performed live as the franchise approaches its 50th anniversary.
Upcoming Star Wars Events
Senbla’s Star Wars: A New Hope in Concert will visit Sheffield City Hall on March 21, Birmingham Symphony Hall on March 25, and Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on March 27. Each performance will pair the complete 1977 film with an orchestra playing Williams’ Oscar-winning score in time with the action.
London’s Royal Albert Hall is also preparing a particularly extensive celebration. Its four-day Star Wars Weekender, running from April 29 to May 2, 2027, will feature the London Symphony Orchestra accompanying screenings of the original trilogy.
The orchestra recorded Williams’ original scores, making its involvement especially fitting. Six performances are scheduled, covering A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi.

Other anniversary plans include the opening of Star Wars: The Experience – A Journey Through the Galaxy on February 13, 2027 and a theatrical release of a newly restored version of the original film on February 19, 2027.
Lucasfilm’s publishing schedule will also welcome Star Wars: A New Hope – Triple Take and Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles. Before 2027 arrives, however, S4C will broadcast the Welsh-language version, Star Wars: Gobaith Newydd, on Christmas Day 2026.
2027 marks five decades since audiences first met characters such as Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher), and Han Solo (Harrison Ford). Originally released as Star Wars, the movie was subsequently given the new title Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope.
The original film launched one of the biggest entertainment franchises in history, spanning nearly 50 years’ worth of sequels, prequels, spinoffs, tie-in novels, comic books, video games, merchandise, theme park attractions, and more.
