A massive Disney theme park resort in the middle of Ohio? For some Disney fans, the idea sounded like an exciting opportunity to experience the company’s famous attractions without traveling all the way to Florida or California.
The rumored development promised far more than a traditional theme park. With multiple parks, dozens of hotels, and an enormous amount of land, the project seemed capable of competing directly with Walt Disney World.
As the story spread across social media, it naturally raised questions about Disney’s future in the United States.
Was the company really preparing to build another American resort, or was there more to the announcement than fans realized?
The answer might disappoint anyone hoping to see Mickey Mouse make Ohio his next home.
Massive Disneyland Ohio Plans Spread Online
The excitement began with claims that Disney was planning a new entertainment destination in Cincinnati, Ohio.
The supposed project, known as “Disneyland Ohio,” would have represented one of the company’s most ambitious theme park developments.
According to a circulating story, Disney planned to spend approximately $100 billion to develop a property spanning roughly 50,000 acres.
The proposed resort would include five theme parks, five golf courses, and more than 30 resort hotels.
There were also some unusual additions.
The fictional plans included 100 pickleball courts and a separate theme park dedicated entirely to Marvel characters.
Combined, these offerings would have created an enormous vacation destination, potentially larger than Walt Disney World itself.
The story even suggested that the resort could open around 2035, although that date was only speculation.
A Facebook video helped bring the claims to a wider audience, creating renewed interest in the possibility of Disney expanding into another American state.
Unfortunately, the impressive plans had one major issue.

Disneyland Ohio Is Not an Official Disney Project
Despite what some social media posts suggested, Disney has no announced plans to construct Disneyland Ohio.
The story originated from Mouse Trap News, a website that specializes in fictional Disney-related content and satire.
The website openly identifies its stories as fictional, meaning the proposed Cincinnati resort was never an actual Disney development.
There is no official Disney announcement supporting the $100 billion investment, five theme parks, or proposed Ohio location.
However, the confusion surrounding Disneyland Ohio comes at a time when Disney really is preparing to expand its global theme park portfolio.
In May 2025, The Walt Disney Company officially announced a new resort destination on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
Disney is collaborating with Miral on the project, which will become its seventh theme park resort destination worldwide.
That development is real, unlike the fictional Ohio announcement.
Still, Disney’s plans for the future leave room for another interesting possibility much closer to home.

Disney World Has Room for Another Theme Park
Walt Disney World already operates four major theme parks in Central Florida, but the resort could eventually add a fifth.
The idea has circulated among Disney fans for years, and a significant development in 2024 helped keep that possibility alive.
That year, Disney received approval for a long-term development agreement allowing additional expansion across its Florida property.
The agreement provides room for another major theme park, potentially giving Walt Disney World a fifth gate.
However, Disney has not officially announced plans to build one.
There is a major difference between having development approval and committing billions of dollars to a new theme park.
Disney would still need to determine what the park would feature, where it would sit, and how much the entire project would cost.
And right now, the company already has plenty of construction projects underway.

Existing Disney World Expansions Remain the Focus
Rather than announcing a fifth park, Disney continues investing in its four existing Florida theme parks.
Magic Kingdom is preparing for major additions, including Piston Peak National Park, inspired by Cars (2006), and Disney Villains Land.
At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney is developing Monstropolis, a new themed area based on Monsters, Inc. (2001).
Disney’s Animal Kingdom is also undergoing significant changes as Tropical Americas takes shape. The new area will feature attractions inspired by Encanto (2021) and Indiana Jones.
Meanwhile, EPCOT has already received substantial investments through new attractions and redesigned spaces.
These projects involve extensive planning, construction, and financial commitments.
With so many expansions already underway, Disney may prioritize completing those developments before considering another enormous American theme park.
For now, Disneyland Ohio remains nothing more than a viral fictional story. Disney’s Abu Dhabi resort is officially moving forward, and a fifth Walt Disney World park remains a possibility rather than a confirmed project.
Fans hoping for another American Disney destination will have to keep waiting.
