Disney World Confirms Unexpected Animal Kingdom Adjustment Ahead of Holidays

Walt Disney World guests planning a November vacation may want to take another look at their park schedules. Disney’s Animal Kingdom has an unexpected change coming, and it could affect families hoping to get an early start.

Disney World regularly adjusts its operating hours based on attendance, special events, and other factors. Sometimes, those changes mean extra time inside the parks. Other times, guests end up with fewer hours to enjoy their favorite attractions.

This latest adjustment falls into the second category, and what’s particularly unusual is that Disney hasn’t explained why it’s happening.

Animal Kingdom Will Open an Hour Later

Disney’s Animal Kingdom is scheduled to open at 9 a.m. on Sunday, November 15, 2026, rather than its usual 8 a.m. opening time.

According to Disney World’s operating calendar, Early Theme Park Entry will also move back an hour, beginning at 8:30 a.m. instead of 7:30 a.m.

The park will still close at 6 p.m., leaving guests with nine hours of regular operating time.

While losing an hour might not seem like a major issue, it can make a difference for families trying to experience everything Animal Kingdom offers.

Popular attractions like Avatar Flight of Passage, Expedition Everest, and Kilimanjaro Safaris can take up a significant portion of the day, especially when wait times increase.

For visitors who prefer arriving early to avoid longer lines, the delayed opening could make their usual strategy less effective.

Interestingly, this change appears to affect only one date.

November 15 Is Different From Other Dates

November 15 is the only date currently showing a 9 a.m. opening on Animal Kingdom’s published calendar extending into early 2027.

Other Sundays throughout November maintain the usual 8 a.m. opening time.

Here’s how the park’s Sunday hours currently compare:

  • November 1: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

  • November 8: 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

  • November 15: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

  • November 22: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

  • November 29: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The difference is particularly noticeable when comparing November 15 with the previous day.

On Saturday, November 14, Animal Kingdom is scheduled to remain open until 8 p.m., giving guests 12 hours inside the park.

The following day, visitors will have just nine hours.

That’s three fewer hours of regular park access between two consecutive dates.

Disney Hasn’t Explained the Schedule Change

Perhaps the most interesting part of this announcement is that Disney hasn’t provided a reason for the delayed opening.

In the past, Disney World has adjusted operating hours to accommodate special events.

For example, EPCOT experienced later openings during Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend in October.

However, Animal Kingdom’s November 15 calendar doesn’t identify any special event or activity that would explain the adjustment.

It’s possible that the later opening is connected to an operational need, but Disney hasn’t confirmed that.

There’s also the possibility that the schedule contains an error that could be corrected before November 15.

Until Disney provides an update, guests should plan around the currently published hours.

What This Means for Disney World Visitors

Anyone visiting Animal Kingdom on November 15 should pay close attention to the park’s operating schedule.

Guests staying at eligible Disney Resort hotels will still receive Early Theme Park Entry, but that benefit won’t begin until 8:30 a.m.

Visitors hoping to experience several popular rides should consider prioritizing their favorite attractions early in the day.

Those with flexible vacation plans may also want to consider visiting on another date when Animal Kingdom opens at 8 a.m.

Of course, Disney World frequently updates its park hours as dates approach, so the November 15 schedule could still change.

For now, guests should expect a later start and a shorter day at Animal Kingdom.

Whether the adjustment is temporary, intentional, or simply a calendar mistake remains unclear. What is certain is that families visiting on November 15 currently have less time scheduled inside the park than they would on a typical day.
