Disney Overhauls Belle’s 1991 Look in Stunning New Transformation

Disney fans have spent decades recognizing Belle by her famous yellow ball gown, but the princess is getting a very different appearance for a major celebration.

With the 35th anniversary of Beauty and the Beast (1991) approaching, Disney is revisiting the character’s original animated appearance. However, the company isn’t relying on the familiar designs that have appeared across merchandise for years.

Instead, Disney has selected a less recognizable outfit and given it an elaborate makeover, creating a version of Belle that looks noticeably different from the princess fans usually see.

The change isn’t permanent, but it could surprise fans expecting another traditional anniversary release.

Disney Reveals Belle’s Unexpected New Appearance

Disney is introducing a limited-edition Belle doll to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Beauty and the Beast (1991), and the princess doesn’t feature her famous yellow gown.

Instead, the princess wears an elaborate green dress inspired by an outfit from the original animated movie.

Photos shared on Instagram recently revealed the new design, giving collectors an early look at the upcoming Disney Store release.

While the green color comes from the animated film, the gown itself features a much more dramatic shape. Its silhouette resembles the ballroom dress featured in Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast (2017).

Disney has also added several decorative details inspired by the movie’s enchanted rose.

A gold rose choker sits around Belle’s neck, while embroidered roses decorate the front of her gown. Even her shoes feature rose-colored bows.

The collectible arrives in a specially designed presentation box decorated with roses in the corners and a dark blue ribbon handle.

Disney is expected to release the doll online through the Disney Store soon, although an exact date hasn’t been announced.

Disney Leaves Belle’s Most Famous Outfits Behind

For generations of Disney fans, Belle’s wardrobe has been just as recognizable as the character herself.

Her blue-and-white village dress, complete with a white apron, appears during the opening portions of Beauty and the Beast (1991).

It’s the outfit Belle wears as she walks through her village with a book, introducing audiences to her love of reading and her desire for something beyond her everyday life.

Then there’s the yellow ball gown.

Belle wears the famous dress during her ballroom dance with the Beast, creating one of the animated movie’s most memorable scenes.

Both costumes have become closely associated with the Disney Princess, appearing on dolls, clothing, costumes, and other merchandise.

However, Disney has passed over those familiar looks in favor of its newest anniversary collectible.

That doesn’t mean the company is permanently changing Belle’s appearance. The green gown belongs specifically to this limited-edition release.

Still, choosing a different costume for such an important anniversary gives collectors something they might not have expected.

The Meaning Behind Belle’s Green Dress

Although Belle’s green dress doesn’t receive as much attention as her yellow gown, it is connected to an important moment in the animated movie.

During Beauty and the Beast (1991), the Beast surprises Belle by showing her the enormous library inside his castle.

The gesture helps change their relationship because the Beast begins understanding Belle’s interests and wants to make her happy.

For someone who loves books as much as Belle, the library holds special meaning.

The green outfit appears during this portion of the story, making it a fitting inspiration for Disney’s anniversary collectible.

However, the new doll doesn’t simply copy the original costume.

Disney has transformed the familiar green design into a more elaborate gown, adding decorative elements that create a different appearance.

The rose accessories also connect Belle’s outfit to the enchanted rose, which plays a central role throughout the movie.

By combining these details, Disney is celebrating more than just the famous ballroom scene.

A New Option for Disney Princess Collectors

Disney frequently celebrates its animated princesses through special merchandise and limited-edition releases.

These collectibles often feature detailed costumes that differ from those of the standard dolls available year-round.

Belle’s newest anniversary design follows that approach by focusing on an outfit fans don’t see as often.

Some collectors may miss the traditional yellow gown, especially for a release honoring the original animated movie. Others might appreciate Disney exploring another recognizable part of Belle’s story.

Either way, the green dress offers something different for longtime fans.

Belle’s classic wardrobe isn’t disappearing, but Disney is giving it a break for this particular collectible.

With its elaborate gown, rose-inspired accessories, and decorative packaging, the new doll offers a different way to celebrate 35 years of Beauty and the Beast (1991).

Fans will now have to wait for its official Disney Store release to see the anniversary collectible become available.
