Disney World Expansions Signal Likely End for 6 Major Attractions by 2027

Not every Disney World attraction is guaranteed to survive the resort’s next round of changes, and fans are questioning what could disappear in 2027.

Disney has removed familiar rides and shows to introduce new experiences, expand existing areas, and make room for ambitious projects.

Now, attention has turned toward six attractions that could face a similar fate.

Some have operated for decades, while others occupy locations Disney could use for future development.

Disney hasn’t confirmed permanent closures for any of them. However, speculation has raised questions about the resort’s future.

1. Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor

One Magic Kingdom attraction facing questions is Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor, which opened in Tomorrowland in 2007.

The interactive comedy show features Mike Wazowski and other characters from Monsters, Inc. (2001).

However, Disney’s upcoming Monstropolis expansion at Hollywood Studios has created uncertainty among some fans.

With portions of the new land expected to open in 2027, visitors have questioned whether Disney will continue operating a separate Monsters, Inc. experience at Magic Kingdom.

Some speculation has focused on replacing Laugh Floor with a Stitch attraction.

Stitch previously appeared in Tomorrowland through Stitch’s Great Escape!, which permanently closed years ago.

Disney hasn’t confirmed either possibility.

2. Tomorrowland Speedway

Another attraction that could face redevelopment is Tomorrowland Speedway.

The Magic Kingdom opening-day experience has allowed families to drive gasoline-powered vehicles along a guided roadway since 1971.

However, some fans believe the attraction no longer fits Tomorrowland’s futuristic identity.

Its large footprint has also attracted attention.

Tomorrowland Speedway occupies considerable land between Tomorrowland and Fantasyland, potentially giving Disney space for another attraction.

Some visitors have suggested replacing its gasoline-powered vehicles with electric alternatives.

Others believe Disney could remove the experience entirely.

Disney hasn’t announced plans to close Tomorrowland Speedway permanently.

3. Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover

The Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover offers something different from Magic Kingdom’s faster attractions.

Guests board elevated vehicles that travel throughout Tomorrowland, providing views of surrounding rides and buildings.

Although many visitors appreciate its relaxing atmosphere, the attraction’s age has raised questions about its future.

The PeopleMover has experienced extended refurbishments, leading some fans to wonder whether Disney will eventually replace its aging infrastructure.

A larger Tomorrowland redevelopment could also affect the attraction.

However, removing the PeopleMover wouldn’t be simple.

Its elevated track extends throughout the land, meaning Disney would need to make substantial changes to accommodate a replacement.

The attraction remains operational without an announced permanent closure.

4. Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room

Magic Kingdom’s Adventureland features another attraction that has been the subject of replacement speculation.

Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room dates back to 1971 and features singing birds, flowers, and tropical figures.

However, rumors have suggested Disney could transform the theater into an experience inspired by Moana (2016).

The movie’s tropical atmosphere has encouraged speculation about bringing its characters into the existing space.

Some fans believe a new musical show could introduce a modern experience while keeping the theater itself.

Nevertheless, Disney hasn’t confirmed plans to remove Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room.

The proposed Moana replacement remains speculation.

5. Star Tours – The Adventures Continue

Star Tours – The Adventures Continue has taken Hollywood Studios visitors through the Star Wars universe since 2011.

Its predecessor opened in 1989, making the experience part of the park’s history for decades.

However, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge changed the landscape when it opened in 2019.

With Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance offering newer adventures, some fans have questioned whether Star Tours will remain necessary.

Its location outside Galaxy’s Edge has also prompted speculation about redevelopment.

Disney could introduce another franchise or expand nearby experiences.

However, the company continues updating Star Tours with additional scenes, and no permanent closure has been announced.

6. Mission: SPACE

EPCOT’s Mission: SPACE has operated since 2003, offering simulated spaceflight adventures.

Guests can choose an intense mission to Mars or a gentler experience orbiting Earth.

However, the attraction has divided visitors because of its spinning motion and intense simulation.

Some fans also believe its concept feels dated compared to newer Disney experiences.

As EPCOT evolves, Mission: SPACE has become another attraction mentioned in discussions about replacements.

Its sizable building could offer Disney redevelopment opportunities.

Still, Disney hasn’t announced plans to close or replace the attraction.

Could 2027 Bring More Closures?

Disney World continues preparing for major additions, but these six attractions face uncertain futures.

None has an officially confirmed permanent closure date, and Disney could choose refurbishment instead of removal.

For now, fans can continue enjoying these experiences while watching for announcements.

Disney World’s ongoing transformation shows that even longtime favorites can eventually disappear.
