If you’ve been to Disney’s Hollywood Studios lately, you’ve probably noticed that the Hollywood Tower Hotel isn’t looking quite like itself. Between ongoing exterior work, a cryptic comment from the attraction’s narrator, and a newly shared guest video, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror has had a busy few weeks.

A Quick Refresher
The Tower of Terror opened on July 22, 1994, and has spent 32 years as one of Walt Disney World’s most recognizable rides. Drawing on Rod Serling’s classic series, it brings guests into the abandoned Hollywood Tower Hotel, which has been frozen in time since a strange incident on Halloween night in 1939. A library preshow explains how a group of guests disappeared that evening, and riders step into a service elevator for supernatural encounters and unexpected drops.
The park has transformed around it, adding Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, Toy Story Land, and Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, but the tower remains the landmark at the end of Sunset Boulevard.
What’s Happening With the Building
Scaffolding has been a regular sight on the hotel throughout 2026. More appeared in August, and in September, the work moved to the back of the structure. For a building this size and age, exterior refurbishment is routine and doesn’t necessarily point to changes inside the ride.
The Narrator Drops a Hint
Fans’ interest picked up when Mark Silverman, who recreated Serling’s narration for the attraction, shared on Instagram that he had visited Walt Disney Imagineering’s Glendale, California, headquarters. Asked by a fan whether guests might hear something new from him at Disney, Silverman answered: “Well…. could be.”
Because Serling died in 1975, nearly 20 years before the ride debuted, Imagineers needed a voice match. Silverman has said Carol Serling, Rod’s widow, selected him herself after auditions. His three-hour recording session in Glendale was blended with existing Serling footage to produce the preshow guests still watch.

Disney has rethemed this ride before: Disney California Adventure’s version closed in January 2017 and returned later that year as Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! Nothing suggests Florida is next. Silverman’s involvement would likely mean the Twilight Zone story stays, and his visit may involve a separate project. Disney has announced no new narration, storyline, or major changes, and hasn’t shared a timeline.
A Rare Peek Behind the Doors
Meanwhile, Instagram user miaamiaa_ posted a video on October 19, 2026, showing a lights-on evacuation from an earlier trip. The caption reads, in part, “What was supposed to be a normal ride at Disney’s Hollywood Studios turned into an experience I’ll NEVER forget!”
The footage shows the elevator gradually lowering with riders visible before the doors open onto a service floor stocked with tools and equipment, where a cast member starts the evacuation.
Evacuations occur throughout Walt Disney World, from thrill rides like Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster to the Hundred Acre Wood in the gentle dark ride, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.
