Disney Alters Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Access Ahead of Hollywood Studios Crowds (Oct. 6)

Guests heading to Disney’s Hollywood Studios on October 6 faced an unexpected complication involving one of the park’s biggest thrill rides.

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets is still a relatively new addition in its current form, but its latest operational wrinkle gave guests another reason to pay close attention to Disney’s published information.

At first, the situation seemed likely to have a significant impact on anyone hoping to ride the coaster. Then, things played out much differently than Disney originally indicated.

Hollywood Studios Guests Get an Unexpected Update

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets normally allows eligible guests to ride during Early Theme Park Entry.

On October 6, Disney’s Hollywood Studios opened for Early Entry at 8:30 a.m., then welcomed all guests at 9 a.m. However, Disney initially listed Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster with an opening time of 11 a.m.

That created an unusual situation.

Guests couldn’t ride during Early Entry, and Disney’s published schedule indicated the coaster also wouldn’t become available when regular park operations began.

Instead, anyone hoping to ride would have needed to wait another two hours after the park officially opened.

For guests who planned to head toward Sunset Boulevard first thing, that meant finding something else to do.

But the situation didn’t stay that way for long.

The Coaster Situation Changes Again

The 11 a.m. opening time didn’t hold.

By approximately 9:30 a.m., Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets was operating and accepting guests.

That still meant the attraction missed Early Entry entirely. It also remained unavailable when Hollywood Studios officially opened at 9 a.m.

But the situation proved much better than Disney’s original operating information suggested.

Rather than waiting until late morning, guests gained access to the coaster about 30 minutes after the regular park opening and approximately 90 minutes before its originally published opening time.

For anyone who had already given up on riding during the first part of the day, checking the attraction’s status again could suddenly change their plans.

A Bigger Impact Than It Might Seem

Although the coaster opened earlier than expected, losing it during Early Entry remained significant.

Eligible Disney Resort hotel guests and guests at select other hotels receive 30 minutes of additional park access before regular opening. That relatively small window can give visitors a chance to experience popular attractions before more guests enter the park.

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster normally participates in that benefit.

With the coaster unavailable, guests who planned to ride it first had to look elsewhere.

The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror offered a nearby alternative. Guests willing to head to other areas of Hollywood Studios could also consider Slinky Dog Dash or Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.

Had Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster remained unavailable until 11 a.m., its eventual opening could have created another challenge as guests waited for their opportunity to ride.

Fortunately, that scenario never fully developed.

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Is Still in a New Era

The unusual operation comes less than five months after Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster underwent a major transformation.

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith had been part of Disney’s Hollywood Studios since 1999. That version permanently closed on March 2, 2026, clearing the way for The Muppets to take over.

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets officially debuted on May 26, 2026.

Disney kept the familiar coaster system while replacing Aerosmith with a new storyline centered around The Electric Mayhem. Guests now race across Hollywood as the band tries to reach its concert.

The theme may be different, but many of the thrills remain familiar.

Guests still experience the high-speed launch, indoor track, and inversions that have long made the coaster one of the park’s more intense attractions.

That also means an unexpected interruption can quickly force guests to reconsider their touring plans.

What This Means for Hollywood Studios Guests

Nothing indicates that the October 6 schedule marks a permanent change for Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets. The unusual hours appear limited to this particular day.

Guests still missed Early Entry, and Disney’s original schedule indicated the coaster would remain unavailable until 11 a.m.

Instead, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster began operating around 9:30 a.m., approximately an hour and a half earlier than Disney originally indicated.

For Hollywood Studios guests, the situation served as another reminder that published attraction hours can change quickly. An attraction expected to remain unavailable for hours may return much sooner.

On October 6, guests waiting for Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster ultimately received better news than expected.
