A Major Disney World Transportation Closure Hits in January 2027
The Disney Skyliner will shut down for seven days in early 2027.
The closure runs from January 24 through January 30, and it covers the entire system.
Disney will run complimentary buses between the affected resorts and the parks throughout.
Who It Affects
Four resorts sit on the Skyliner line:
- Disney’s Pop Century Resort
- Disney’s Art of Animation Resort
- Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort
- Disney’s Riviera Resort
All four connect to EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios by gondola. For that week, they connect by bus.
This Is Routine
Worth saying clearly, because “Disney closes Skyliner” reads worse than it is.
This is annual maintenance on a fixed schedule. Disney has already published the 2028 closure dates too.
A company announcing a shutdown sixteen months out, and the following year on top of it, is running a maintenance cycle, not reacting to a problem.
Late January is also one of the slowest stretches of the Disney World year. Holiday crowds gone. Race crowds gone. Presidents Day and spring break still ahead. It is the obvious window.
Why It Still Stings
Here is the part that matters if you booked for the Skyliner.
The gondolas changed what those hotels are.
Pop Century and Art of Animation are value resorts. Before 2019, getting to EPCOT or Hollywood Studios meant a bus, like every other value resort. The Skyliner handed them near deluxe transportation at value pricing, and it became the reason people pick them over the All-Stars.
Riviera’s whole location pitch runs on it. Caribbean Beach is the system’s hub.
So for seven days, those resorts go back to being what they were in 2018.
Disney will get you to the parks. You just will not get the thing you booked for.
What Buses Do Not Replace
Park transportation is covered.
Resort to resort is the gap. Hopping from Pop over to Riviera for dinner is simple on a gondola and genuinely annoying on a bus network routed through parks.
One upside for Riviera guests: reaching Hollywood Studios by Skyliner normally means transferring at Caribbean Beach. A direct bus may actually be faster that week.
Nearby Resorts Are Fine
Guests at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn, Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, and Disney’s Beach Club Resort walk to the EPCOT station but do not depend on it.
Their normal transportation runs unaffected, including buses and the Friendship boats linking the EPCOT resort area to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios.
You lose a shortcut. Nothing else.

- Animal Kingdom Lodge, Jambo House: May 2026 to January 2027
- Grand Floridian, resort-wide including porte-cochère: Through early 2027
- Port Orleans Riverside, rooms: Through August 2027
- Beach Club, exterior: Through late 2027
- Contemporary, resort-wide: Through late 2027
- Coronado Springs Convention Center: Through September 2027
Several run most of the year. Resort-wide work at the Grand Floridian and Contemporary can mean scaffolding, closed walkways, and noise depending on your room location.
Planning Around It
Flexible dates? Move off January 24 to 30 and the problem disappears.
Locked in? The resorts still work fine. You are just on a bus, which is worth weighing against Riviera pricing specifically.
