Disney World Unleashes Sweeping Resort Changes This Winter With One Permanent Loss

Several hotels across the Walt Disney World Resort are undergoing major refurbishment projects, with some work stretching into 2027. Guests could encounter construction noise, altered walking routes, closed amenities, and temporary transportation changes.

Some projects may have only a minor effect on vacations. Others may matter more, especially for guests who choose a resort for its pool or transportation.

Disney has confirmed several hotel changes for the months ahead, including one longtime holiday tradition that has reached the end of its run.

Several Resorts Have Long-Term Work Ahead

Guests at some of Disney World’s most popular hotels should expect construction for quite a while.

At Disney’s Beach Club Resort, exterior maintenance will continue through late 2027. Guests may hear daytime construction, encounter temporary changes to walking routes, or find some views affected.

Disney’s Contemporary Resort also faces an extended timeline. Work will continue in phases through late 2027, including Bay Lake Tower and the Main Tower atrium.

At Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, work in select locations will continue through early 2027. That includes the covered entrance, with possible daytime construction and altered walking paths.

None of these resorts is closing, but guests spending significant time at their hotel may notice the projects.

Guest Rooms Are Still Getting Attention

Disney is also continuing room refurbishments at several resorts.

Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort will renovate guest rooms through January 2027. Guests may hear construction noise or encounter adjusted routes around the property.

At Animal Kingdom Lodge, work on Kidani Village rooms finished in May 2026, but Jambo House remains under refurbishment through January 2027.

Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside has a longer timeline, with guest room renovations continuing through August 2027.

All three resorts remain open during the work, but the projects may affect guests who prefer quieter stays.

Boardwalk Guests Will Lose a Major Pool Area

One of the more noticeable closures begins at Disney’s Boardwalk Inn early next year.

Starting January 11, 2027, Luna Park Pool, Luna Park Crazy Play Area, and Leaping Horse Libations will close for routine maintenance through April 2027.

The Villas Pool and Inn Pool will remain open.

Even so, families who specifically choose Boardwalk for the Luna Park Pool area may want to consider the closure before booking.

Disney Skyliner Will Temporarily Shut Down

Transportation will also look different for some hotel guests in January.

The Disney Skyliner will be closed from January 24 through January 30, 2027, for annual maintenance.

The shutdown affects Pop Century Resort, Art of Animation Resort, Caribbean Beach Resort, and Riviera Resort.

Normally, the Skyliner provides transportation to EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Disney will provide buses during the closure.

It lasts only one week, but guests who chose their hotel for Skyliner access could feel the difference.

Coronado Springs Work Will Continue Overnight

Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort is dealing with another lengthy refurbishment.

Convention Center work will continue through late September 2027 and includes the El Centro Corridor and nearby areas.

Disney will complete the project in phases, so certain spaces may temporarily become unavailable.

Most construction will take place overnight to minimize disruption, though guests may still encounter affected areas.

Grand Floridian Is Losing a 25-Year-Old Staple

This loss is among the most devastating for longtime Disney fans. The Grand Floridian Resort’s famous life-size gingerbread house will not return.

The display debuted in 1999 and became one of Disney World’s most recognizable Christmas traditions. Each holiday season, the massive creation filled the Grand Floridian lobby, giving guests a place to purchase seasonal treats.

The house did not appear in 2025 because of lobby construction. Some fans hoped the absence would last only one year, but Disney later confirmed the full-size version would not return in 2026.

Instead, smaller gingerbread creations from Disney’s culinary team will appear throughout the resort.

After more than 25 years, the towering holiday centerpiece is officially finished.

Winter Hotel Stays May Require More Planning

These projects won’t necessarily ruin a Disney World vacation, but they could affect how guests experience their hotel.

Construction noise or an alternate walkway may barely matter to some travelers. Losing a favorite pool or the Skyliner could have a bigger impact.

Checking refurbishment schedules will be particularly important this winter.

And at the Grand Floridian, guests will encounter a permanent change. Disney will still decorate for the holidays, but one of the resort’s longest-running traditions will no longer be part of them.
