Disney World Guests Face New Transportation Restrictions Across the Resort
Getting from one place to another at Walt Disney World may look a little different depending on where guests are headed.
Disney has made a notable change to transportation leaving Disney Springs, while several boat routes have dealt with maintenance and refurbishment work. The Disney Skyliner has also experienced recent operational trouble, and more work appears to be on the horizon.
For guests planning upcoming vacations, these changes make it worth checking transportation options before leaving a park, resort, or Disney Springs.
Disney Springs Transportation Access Has Changed
The biggest permanent change started June 28, 2026.
Walt Disney World now restricts resort bus and water taxi access from Disney Springs. Guests heading from Disney Springs to a Disney Resort hotel must have a qualifying reason to use the transportation.
That includes staying at a Disney Resort hotel or having a valid dining or experience reservation at one.
Cast Members may ask guests to provide proof before allowing them to enter the resort bus area or use applicable water transportation.
The policy makes casual resort hopping from Disney Springs more difficult for off-site guests. Previously, visitors could use Disney Springs as a transportation point before exploring Disney hotels without necessarily having a reservation.
Transportation from the theme parks to Disney Resort hotels remains another option for guests.
Disney Boat Service Continues To Change
Several water transportation routes have also faced disruptions.
The FriendShip boat dock serving Disney’s Yacht Club Resort and Disney’s Beach Club Resort underwent maintenance that stretched through late August. That dock has now reopened, restoring another transportation option for guests around the EPCOT resort area.
Meanwhile, work along the Sassagoula River Cruise route has affected service between Disney Springs and resorts including Disney’s Port Orleans Resort and Disney’s Old Key West Resort.
Disney has directed affected guests toward complimentary bus transportation during the interruption.
The refurbishment was scheduled to continue through late August, putting the route close to its expected return.
Skyliner Work Is Also Ahead
The Disney Skyliner has had problems of its own.
Earlier in August, a loading issue contributed to lengthy delays and large queues. The situation lasted long enough for Disney to deploy backup buses to help transport resort guests.
Now, Disney has filed a construction permit involving the Skyliner station at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
The filing doesn’t confirm exactly what work Disney will complete, but it arrives ahead of an already scheduled refurbishment.
Disney Skyliner will close across the entire system from January 24 through January 30, 2027. Complimentary buses will operate during the shutdown.
Between tighter Disney Springs access, temporary boat interruptions, recent Skyliner delays, and upcoming maintenance, transportation is going through a busy period.
Guests can still move throughout Walt Disney World without a car, but checking which routes are actually operating could prevent an unexpected transportation headache.
