Opening day is supposed to be the payoff.
Fresh menus. Nothing reviewed yet. Full merchandise racks. You get to be the one telling everyone what to order. Plenty of guests plan entire trips around day one for exactly that.
Now picture walking into the 2026 EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival on opening day and finding a closed lounge, a drink lineup nobody is pouring, and five Global Marketplaces that will not open for weeks.
That is what guests found.
The festival opened on August 27 and runs through November 21. This is the thirtieth year of the Food & Wine Festival at EPCOT, and it raises the bar rather than lowering it.
What People Reported
Complaints hit social media within hours.
“Apparently the Florida Blue Lounge for Epcot’s Food and Wine festival is closed,” wrote Threads user kates_takes. “It’s opening day of the fest and things do not seem ready today. Joffrey’s fest coffees are not available today either which is a bummer.”
Two problems, one post.

The Missing Drinks
Joffrey’s has a full festival lineup this year, and it is a good one. All four drinks are new. All four are built on Joffrey’s Affogato-flavored Cold Brew with oat milk, stationed at four different spots:
- Affogato alle Mandorle Cold Brew, almond syrup, whipped cream, toffee nut sauce, at The American Adventure
- Dolce Affogato Cold Brew, sugar cane syrup, whipped cream, rainbow sprinkles, near Disney Traders
- Notte di Caramello Cold Brew, caramel syrup, whipped cream, cinnamon, between the UK and Canada
- Affogato di Marshmallow Cold Brew, toasted marshmallow syrup, whipped cream, graham crackers, near Cosmic Rewind
Spirited versions available with Grey Goose or Baileys, depending on the drink.
Four locations across the park. None pouring on day one, per guest reports.
The EPCOT Booths That Skipped Opening Day
This part is not a hiccup. It is the schedule.
- Festival Favorites, September 9
- Coastal Eats, October 2
- Earth Eats, October 2
- India, October 2
- The Alps, October 2
Four of those are more than a month out. Visit this week and you are getting a smaller festival than an October guest, for the same ticket price.
India stings the most. It has almost always opened with the festival, and its Chicken Tikka Masala, introduced in 2004, and Potato-Pea Samosas, introduced in 2005, are among some of the best food items in Food & Wine history. Missing them on the 30th anniversary weekend is a choice.
The Alps are similar. Warm Raclette Swiss Cheese dates to 1997, and the booth carries the Tartiflette, one of the most talked-about new items this year.
Coastal Eats and Earth Eats bring back the Crab Cake, Seafood Pot Pie, and Red Wine-braised Beef Short Rib.
The Cost-Cutting Question
Disney has said nothing about why. What follows is fan speculation, not reporting.
The theory is simple. Fewer open booths mean fewer cast members scheduled, which lowers labor costs during a genuinely slow stretch of the calendar. Late August into early September is one of the quieter windows at Walt Disney World.
It caught on because guests have seen this before. During the EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival, some booths ran on different schedules depending on the day of the week, and nobody could tell what would be open when they showed up.
Staggered openings are not automatically bad. Some booths have always come later, and Disney never promised a complete festival on day one.
The real question is whether the number of delayed booths continues to grow and whether this becomes the norm at every EPCOT festival.
Going to EPCOT Soon?
Check what is available before building a day around a single dish. The festival passport and My Disney Experience update faster than any guide.
Want the Chicken Tikka Masala? It does not exist until October. Same for the Tartiflette.
And if you planned to finish Emile’s Fromage Montage early, several qualifying cheese items are at booths that have not opened yet.
Day One Is Always Messy
Fair is fair. The first days at Disney rarely run smoothly. Lounges open late, menus shift, items vanish. Most of it sorts itself within a week.
The Florida Blue Lounge and the Joffrey’s drinks will almost certainly be running shortly, if they are not already.
The booth delays are different. Those were not accidents. Those were planned.
Maybe someday there will be a Food & Wine Festival where everything opens on opening day. On the 30th anniversary, this one was not it.
