Disney World Sets Lakeshore Lodge Opening Date, Drops First Look at Themed Rooms

Disney has finally put a date on one of Walt Disney World’s biggest resort projects.

After years of starts, stops, and uncertainty, Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge now has an official opening date. Disney has also shared a closer look at what guests will find inside, including several room styles inspired by different animated films.

The latest details make the vision for the waterfront property much easier to see. From accommodations overlooking Bay Lake to new dining experiences and a fireworks lounge, Disney has revealed much more about what awaits guests.

And considering how long this project has been in the works, getting an actual opening date marks a major step forward.

A Resort Project That Dates Back to 2018

Long before Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge had its current name, Disney planned another resort for this piece of property.

Disney first announced the project in 2018 as Reflections – A Disney Lakeside Lodge. Those plans eventually stalled during the COVID-19 pandemic, leaving the development’s future uncertain for years.

Eventually, activity started picking up again. Disney filed new permits for the property before officially announcing Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge in 2024.

The Disney Vacation Club resort will occupy waterfront property along Bay Lake at the former location of Disney’s River Country water park. It sits between Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground and Disney’s Wilderness Lodge.

Nature will serve as a major source of inspiration throughout the property, with Disney drawing connections between the outdoors and the work of its artists and storytellers.

The resort will feature 967 accommodations, including studios, villas, suites, and waterfront Lake Houses. Many rooms will overlook Bay Lake, and some will give guests views of Magic Kingdom fireworks.

After years of waiting, guests now know exactly when those rooms will welcome their first visitors.

Lakeshore Lodge Opens July 1, 2027

Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge will officially open on July 1, 2027.

That places the debut squarely in summer 2027 and finally gives Walt Disney World guests a firm date to plan around.

Disney describes the property as a waterfront retreat that combines nature with Disney storytelling and artistry. The room designs offer one of the clearest examples of how Disney plans to bring that idea to life.

Rather than designing the entire resort around a single movie, Disney is drawing inspiration from several animated stories across different accommodation categories.

Several Disney Movies Inspire the Rooms

Guests will have plenty of options when choosing where to stay, with accommodations ranging from small studios to three-bedroom Grand Villas.

  • Waterfront Lake House — Brother Bear (2003): These spacious waterfront accommodations feature large windows. The bedroom design includes mountain imagery with blue, purple, and green lighting.
  • One-bedroom villa — Bambi (1942): The classic film’s woodland setting inspires these larger accommodations.
  • Hidden Willow Presidential Suite — Pocahontas (1995): Disney is bringing elements inspired by the animated film into one of Lakeshore Lodge’s premium accommodations.
  • Resort studio — Pocahontas (1995): The film will also influence resort studio design.
  • Deluxe studio — Bambi (1942): Guests staying in this category will find additional design inspiration connected to the Disney classic.
  • Duo studio — Encanto (2021): The newer animated film inspires the resort’s Duo Studios.
  • Three-bedroom Grand Villa — Fantasia (1940): One of the largest accommodation options will celebrate the classic animated film.

Disney is also adding one- and two-bedroom Lake Houses directly along the waterfront, expanding the choices beyond accommodations inside the main resort areas.

But the Disney storytelling won’t stop once guests leave their rooms.

Dining and Fireworks Are Part of the Plans

Disney has confirmed three dining experiences for Lakeshore Lodge.

Moonglade will operate as a table-service restaurant, while Bay Lake Provisions will serve as an all-day quick-service marketplace. Paint Out Point Bar & Grill will offer another option for guests seeking poolside dining.

Elsewhere, Disney has revealed a lobby inspired by Pocahontas (1995), continuing the property’s nature-focused approach.

Dandelion Terrace will also give guests a place to relax while overlooking Bay Lake. Disney says the lounge will offer views of Magic Kingdom fireworks across the water.

Many of the resort’s guest rooms will provide nighttime fireworks views as well, making Bay Lake an important part of the overall experience.

Lakeshore Lodge Is Finally Taking Shape

Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge has traveled a long road from its original 2018 announcement.

The project stalled, remained uncertain for years, and eventually returned with a new name and vision. Now, the pieces are coming together.

With 967 accommodations, waterfront Lake Houses, Disney-inspired rooms, three dining experiences, and fireworks views, Lakeshore Lodge will add another major Disney Vacation Club destination to Walt Disney World.

And after years of uncertainty, the most important detail is finally official: Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge opens July 1, 2027.
