Disneyland Paris Replaces Elements of Exclusive Phantom Manor Attraction

Phantom Manor, the one-of-a-kind haunted house ride in Frontierland at Disneyland Park (Paris), is getting some cosmetic attention at its entrance. Disney cast members have been repainting rockwork outside the attraction, and a longer maintenance closure is only a couple of weeks away.

A Ride You Can’t Find Anywhere Else

Phantom Manor opened alongside Disneyland Paris Resort on April 12, 1992. It is the only version of this dark ride in the world. Disneyland Resort, Walt Disney World Resort, and Tokyo Disney Resort each have the Haunted Mansion, and Hong Kong Disneyland Resort has Mystic Manor. Shanghai Disney Resort doesn’t have a haunted house attraction at all.

Some of Phantom Manor’s scenes echo those in the California and Florida mansions, but the story is far darker and draws on the Old West. Imagineers have cited Gaston Leroux’s novel “The Phantom of the Opera” as a significant influence, and the ride was crafted with a European audience in mind rather than an American one.

On October 28, X (formerly known as Twitter) user @DLPReport shared photos of cast members repainting the dark rockwork outside the Phantom Manor entrance. The post read:

🔧 Painting in progress for the Phantom Manor fence rockwork:

Large barriers and “wet paint” signs rope off the area. Disneyland Paris Resort hasn’t said anything publicly about this particular project, and nothing in the photos suggests more than a repaint of existing rockwork.

Closure Dates

Phantom Manor is scheduled to close for refurbishment on November 16 and reopen on November 28. That timing is typical, since the Frontierland attraction usually goes down for annual maintenance after the Disney Halloween Festival celebration at Disneyland Park (Paris) ends.

Visitors planning a European Disney Parks vacation in the second half of November should expect Phantom Manor to be unavailable for about 12 days.
