Disney Parks Could Lose Guests This November as Major Event Arrives

For generations, people have traveled to Florida for entertainment.

Walt Disney World Resort has played a huge role in turning the Sunshine State into one of the world’s biggest vacation destinations, with Disney Parks welcoming millions of guests to attractions, themed lands, resorts, and restaurants every year.

This November, however, another version of Florida will become available to millions of people — without requiring them to leave home.

Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto VI takes players to Leonida, a fictional state inspired by Florida. The Miami-inspired Vice City sits at the center of the game, but the wider map will allow players to explore much more of Rockstar’s deliberately exaggerated take on the region.

The timing is particularly interesting. GTA VI is scheduled to arrive on November 19, 2026, following a delay from its original May release date. By then, fans will have been waiting more than a decade for a new mainline installment following Grand Theft Auto V (2013).

That previous game became one of the best-selling entertainment products ever created, and Rockstar’s next release is expected to command an enormous amount of attention.

There is even a possibility that the game could poke fun at one of Florida’s most famous destinations. Fans have speculated for years that Rockstar might create its own parody of Disney World, although there is currently no confirmation that anything like this will appear in GTA VI. The bigger question may be what happens outside the game.

Disney Parks compete for people’s vacation time and disposable income, while GTA VI will compete for something much simpler: their attention.

Previous Grand Theft Auto launches have been significant enough for players to take time off work, and this will be the franchise’s first new mainline game in 13 years.

There’s no reason to assume GTA VI will suddenly empty Disney Parks. A family holiday is very different from spending an evening playing a video game, and plenty of Disney guests will undoubtedly enjoy both.

Still, the November 19 release creates an unusual scenario. One of the world’s biggest entertainment franchises is about to launch its own version of Florida at exactly the same time that Disney Parks are entering the holiday season.

Whether GTA VI actually makes a dent in Disney World attendance remains to be seen. But with the game arriving in the same state where Disney has built one of the world’s biggest tourist destinations, it’s certainly an interesting experiment to watch.
