‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’ Will Officially Continue in 2027
Few animated television shows have had an impact on Star Wars quite like The Clone Wars.
Before Disney+ existed, before many of the franchise’s most popular live-action shows had even been conceived, the animated series was expanding the galaxy far, far away week after week. But The Clone Wars wasn’t the first animated take on the era.
The franchise first explored the Clone Wars in the 2003 animated microseries. Lucasfilm then released Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008), a theatrical animated movie that introduced a younger Anakin Skywalker (Matt Lanter) and his new Padawan, Ahsoka Tano (Ashley Eckstein).

That movie eventually led to the main The Clone Wars television series, which ran from 2008 to 2020 and helped bridge the narrative gap between Star Wars: Episode II — Attack of the Clones (2002) and Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith (2005).
But while the animated series ended six years ago, its story has never truly disappeared.
Ahsoka’s story continued in Star Wars Rebels (2014–2018), which took place years after the Clone Wars and followed the character as she became involved in the growing rebellion against the Galactic Empire. Her journey eventually moved into live action with Ahsoka (2023), which brought several Rebels characters into the modern Star Wars universe.

Ahsoka Season 2 Is Coming
Now, Lucasfilm is taking audiences back to the Clone Wars once again.
During the Disney Studio Showcase Panel at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, the first trailer for Ahsoka Season 2 was unveiled:

The footage features Hayden Christensen returning as Anakin Skywalker, alongside Ariana Greenblatt as a younger Ahsoka. The trailer also revisits Ahsoka’s time as Anakin’s Padawan, including the question, “Are you a Jedi or not?” That directly recalls one of the most important storylines from The Clone Wars, when Ahsoka was falsely accused of a crime and chose to leave the Jedi Order.
While the new series remains set years after the events of the original trilogy, these flashbacks effectively bring elements of The Clone Wars into live action.
Ahsoka Season 2 is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ on January 20, 2027, with eight episodes.
