Ryan Reynolds Desperately Tries To Secure ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Role

Ryan Reynolds has offered the biggest hint yet that another Deadpool movie could eventually happen, even as fans continue waiting to find out whether the Merc with a Mouth will appear in the upcoming ensemble film Avengers: Doomsday (2026).

Following the success of Deadpool & Wolverine (2024), which earned $1.338 billion worldwide and became one of Marvel Studios’ biggest releases, the future of Wade Wilson in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has remained unclear.

While Hugh Jackman has previously said he would be willing to return as Wolverine for as long as Marvel allows, Reynolds has been more uncertain about reprising his role as Deadpool.

The actor has repeatedly suggested that the character works best when surrounded by other heroes, leaving fans questioning whether a fourth solo movie was likely.

However, Reynolds recently suggested that another Deadpool film will happen.

During an appearance at Fanatics Fest 2026, Reynolds discussed potential stories he would like to explore, including ideas inspired by Deadpool‘s comic book history, saying:

“There’s a few really deep cuts that I think are missing behind the movies. I think there’s a few deep cuts missing from some of the comics. There’s certainly some stuff that, you know, I love that Fabian Nicieza [co-creator of Deadpool] wrote that is incredible. Gerry Duggan, who was a friend, was an incredible comic writer,”

He added:

“There’s stuff upcoming. There’s eventually, you know, remotely another Deadpool film. It’s going to be great.”

Although the actor did not reveal when a fourth movie could arrive, his comments suggest that Marvel’s relationship with the character is far from over.

Will Deadpool Appear in Avengers: Doomsday?

The question surrounding Deadpool’s MCU future grew after Marvel announced the cast of Avengers: Doomsday in 2025.

The film’s lineup includes several major MCU returnees, including Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, and Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova.

The movie will also feature several returning X-Men actors from 20th Century Fox’s franchise, including Ian McKellen as Magneto, Patrick Stewart as Professor X, James Marsden as Cyclops, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, and Kelsey Grammer as Beast.

Channing Tatum will also return as Gambit after debuting the character in Deadpool & Wolverine.

Despite those announcements, however, neither Reynolds nor Jackman has officially been confirmed to appear as Deadpool or Wolverine.

But Reynolds did bring the character back into the spotlight at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. During Marvel’s Hall H presentation, Reynolds surprised fans by appearing as Deadpool during Marvel’s Hall H presentation while wearing a gray suit inspired by the X-Force comics.

Onstage, Avengers: Doomsday cast members, directors Anthony Russo and Joe Russo, and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige fielded jokes from Reynolds as he joked about whether the movie needed any last-minute additions.

The Hollywood Reporter shared footage of the moment on X (Twitter):

While the appearance was clearly a joke, it has once again raised questions about whether Deadpool could eventually join Marvel’s next major crossover event.

For now, fans will have to wait to see whether Wade Wilson appears in Avengers: Doomsday or returns in a fourth Deadpool adventure.

Avengers: Doomsday will be released on December 18, 2026. The sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, which will conclude Phase Six of the MCU, is scheduled to hit theaters on December 17, 2027.
