Why August 7 Is a Good Day To Visit Magic Kingdom Despite Park Closing at 6 p.m.

Magic Kingdom’s Halloween season is almost here, and guests heading to Walt Disney World beginning August 7 will need to keep one important change in mind before locking in their vacation plans.

As Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party returns for its 2026 season, Magic Kingdom will once again shift to an early closing schedule on select dates. While the separately ticketed event remains one of Disney’s biggest seasonal draws, the change also affects anyone visiting the park with a standard admission ticket.

Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party brings exclusive entertainment to Magic Kingdom, including character trick-or-treat locations, the Boo-to-You Halloween Parade, and a Halloween-themed fireworks spectacular. Because the event requires separate admission, Disney closes the park to regular visitors before the festivities begin.

On party dates, guests without a Halloween Party ticket—including those using standard admission, Park Hopper tickets, or Annual Passes—must leave Magic Kingdom by 6 p.m.

That means the park’s nighttime offerings will only be available to those attending Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. Fireworks, parades, and other evening entertainment are reserved exclusively for party guests after the park transitions into the event.

Anyone visiting Magic Kingdom throughout the fall should review Disney’s operating calendar before arriving, as party dates—and corresponding early closures—vary throughout the season.

The return of the Halloween event is also bringing a noticeable pricing change for Disney’s premium skip-the-line offering. Beginning August 7, Lightning Lane Premier Pass at Magic Kingdom will cost $359 per guest, making it the lowest listed price the service has seen in recent weeks.

Disney adjusts Premier Pass pricing using several factors, including anticipated demand and the number of hours the pass remains usable. Since guests without a party ticket have a shorter day inside Magic Kingdom, the value of the service changes as well.

Although the park closes to day guests earlier than normal, the reduced operating hours have resulted in a lower Premier Pass cost than on recent non-party dates.

An early closing time doesn’t automatically mean a worse experience. Many visitors intentionally avoid Magic Kingdom during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party dates because they want to watch the traditional nighttime fireworks and stay in the park until close. That often shifts attendance toward non-party dates instead.

For guests who don’t mind ending their day at 6 p.m., that can translate into lighter daytime crowds, shorter waits for major attractions, and a more relaxed touring experience.

When paired with the reduced $359 Lightning Lane Premier Pass price on August 7, the first Halloween Party date could prove attractive for visitors focused primarily on attractions rather than nighttime entertainment.

Guests attending Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party also have another item to review before arriving. Unlike standard operating days, adults are permitted to wear costumes during the separately ticketed event. Disney, however, maintains detailed costume guidelines designed to keep the event family-friendly.

Costumes cannot feature offensive content, excessive gore, or dangerous accessories. Props resembling weapons, along with sharp or hazardous items, are prohibited, and Disney may refuse entry or require costume modifications if an outfit doesn’t meet its standards.

Face coverings are also restricted. Guests ages 14 and older generally cannot wear masks that completely hide their faces, although themed makeup and partial face paint remain acceptable as long as a guest can still be identified.

Disney also discourages oversized costumes or accessories that could interfere with safely moving around the park. While guests are welcome to dress as Disney, Pixar, Marvel, or Star Wars characters, they cannot portray themselves as official Disney performers by signing autographs or interacting with other visitors in ways that could create confusion with Disney Cast Members or entertainment performers.

Before attending, Disney recommends reviewing its complete costume policy to help ensure a smooth arrival. Guests who follow the rules can spend their evening enjoying exclusive character meet-and-greets, trick-or-treat trails, the Boo-to-You parade, Halloween fireworks, and other entertainment unique to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party.

Whether August 7 is the right day to visit ultimately depends on your priorities. Guests hoping to experience Magic Kingdom’s nighttime entertainment should either purchase a Halloween Party ticket or choose a non-party date. Those focused on attractions, however, may find the combination of lighter daytime crowds and lower Lightning Lane Premier Pass pricing makes an early-closing day an appealing option.
