Halloween Horror Nights 35 is bringing some major changes for guests who want to get inside the action before the event officially begins. For anyone hoping to tackle as many haunted houses as possible, Stay & Scream could be one of the most useful tools available this year.
Universal Orlando Resort has adjusted the experience again for 2026, including earlier haunted house access, additional wristband locations, and a staggered schedule that begins several hours before the official 6:30 p.m. start of Halloween Horror Nights.
Here’s what guests should know before heading to Universal Studios Florida.
Early Access Begins Much Earlier Than HHN
Stay & Scream allows eligible guests to remain inside Universal Studios Florida as the park transitions from regular daytime operations into Halloween Horror Nights.
Rather than leaving with daytime guests and lining up outside the front gates, Stay & Scream participants can stay inside and prepare for the evening.
This year, that advantage starts surprisingly early.
Three haunted houses are scheduled to begin operating at 2 p.m., giving eligible guests access four and a half hours before HHN officially starts.
That could completely change how some visitors plan their night. Guests who move quickly may have several houses finished before the majority of the evening crowd even enters Universal Studios Florida.
You’ll Need the Right Tickets
Guests can’t enter Stay & Scream with only a Halloween Horror Nights ticket.
Universal requires valid daytime admission to Universal Studios Florida and valid HHN admission for that same night. Annual and Seasonal Passholders can participate as long as their pass provides valid park admission and they also have admission to that evening’s Halloween Horror Nights event.
Guests using regular single-day or multi-day park tickets can participate under the same basic rules.
For visitors who don’t want to purchase a full daytime ticket, Universal also offers the Scream Early add-on.
Scream Early Has Changed for 2026
Scream Early admission now begins at 2 p.m., an hour earlier than the previous 3 p.m. entry time.
The add-on starts at $70 per person and requires separate admission to Halloween Horror Nights for the same night.
That makes Scream Early particularly interesting this year because the entry time lines up with the first haunted houses opening.
Guests using the add-on won’t get an entire day at Universal Studios Florida, but they can enter early enough to participate in Stay & Scream and potentially begin visiting houses well before the official event.
Wristbands Are Important
Universal changed Stay & Scream considerably in 2025 by moving away from the traditional holding-area setup.
Instead of keeping participating guests inside specific areas while the park prepares for HHN, Universal uses wristbands to identify eligible visitors. That gives guests more freedom to move around Universal Studios Florida and continue enjoying available attractions.
The wristbands return for HHN 35.
Guests can pick theirs up near Guest Services beginning when the park opens. Starting at 2 p.m., Universal will also distribute wristbands near Hogwarts Express: King’s Cross Station and Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast.
Anyone already spending the day inside the park may want to handle the wristband process earlier rather than waiting until haunted house access begins.
Haunted Houses Will Open in Stages
Guests shouldn’t expect all 10 houses to begin operating at the same time.
Universal plans to open three houses at 2 p.m. At 4 p.m., queues for select additional houses will begin accepting guests, although those houses won’t necessarily be operating yet.
More haunted houses are expected to start opening around 5:15 p.m.
Then, at 6:30 p.m., Halloween Horror Nights officially begins and all 10 houses are expected to be open.
Universal hasn’t announced which houses will be included in each early opening period, so guests will need to pay attention to the Universal Orlando app for the most current information.
Ten Houses Await Guests at HHN 35
This year’s Halloween Horror Nights runs on select nights from August 28 through November 1, 2026.
The 10 haunted houses are Jack & Oddfellow: Chaos & Control, Sinners, Stranger Things, Hellraiser, Evil Dead Burn, Cybergoria, H.R. Bloodengutz Presents: A Halloween Fright-Tacular!, INVASION: Alien Abduction, MADLANDS: Caged Cannibals, and Ozzy Osbourne.
The larger event revolves around the “Infernal Carnival of Nightmares,” with Jack and Oddfellow appearing in the scare zone bearing the same name.
Guests can also expect Sideshow of Decay and Killer Klowns from Outer Space scare zones, a Stranger Things lagoon show, and Nightmare Fuel: Blood Noir.
Stay & Scream Could Be Worth Planning Around
With 10 haunted houses and plenty of entertainment competing for guests’ attention, every hour matters at Halloween Horror Nights.
That’s what makes the 2 p.m. opening especially significant.
Stay & Scream guests won’t simply be waiting around for HHN to begin. Some could already be walking through haunted houses while other visitors are still hours away from entering the event.
For anyone hoping to experience as much of Halloween Horror Nights 35 as possible, the afternoon may now be just as important as the night.
