Disney Confirms Longer Fireworks Ban Following Days of Disappointment

Disney’s summer disruptions are continuing.

Extreme heat has affected theme park operations on both sides of the Atlantic in recent weeks, prompting changes to outdoor entertainment, character appearances and nighttime shows.

At Walt Disney World Resort, heat advisories have brought heat index values of roughly 110 degrees Fahrenheit. Portable fans were introduced for cast members, while Disney adjusted some entertainment to reduce the time performers spent walking outdoors.

The Disney Adventure Friends Cavalcade was among the affected offerings. Costumed characters were moved onto floats, while face characters continued along the parade route.

Disneyland Paris has faced similar conditions. A June heatwave led to costumed characters being removed from Disney Stars on Parade, while some character meet-and-greets were altered and several outdoor attractions temporarily closed.

Now, the French resort has confirmed that its fireworks ban will last longer than originally expected.

Local Order Keeps Fireworks Suspended

Authorities in Seine-et-Marne, the department containing Disneyland Paris, first introduced the restriction on July 10.

The order banned fireworks, pyrotechnic displays, bonfires and campfires in outdoor public and private spaces after high temperatures increased the risk of fire across the region.

Officials also suspended exceptional permits that would normally allow certain fire-related events to proceed.

The ban had been scheduled to end on July 15. It has now been extended through July 19, meaning Disneyland Paris will remain without fireworks for four additional days.

The extension affects the resort’s two current nighttime spectaculars.

Disney Tales of Magic, performed at Disneyland Park, is continuing without pyrotechnics. Drones are being used to provide an aerial element above Sleeping Beauty Castle.

Disney Cascade of Lights is also being presented without pyrotechnics. The show recently debuted at Disney Adventure World – the park formerly known as Walt Disney Studios Park, which debuted its World of Frozen land and Tangled (2010)-themed attraction in March.

The change follows several days of altered nighttime entertainment at the resort.

Disneyland Paris’ Bastille Day celebration on July 14 had been promoted as a new show featuring Tinker Bell and Disney stories linked to France.

Those included Beauty and the Beast, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Ratatouille, and The Aristocats.

The performance went ahead with drones and projections, but the planned fireworks were removed because of the regional order.

Disney had warned guests before the show that changing conditions could result in further alterations or a cancellation.

“We can’t wait for you to discover this new show, which will take you on a journey around the world with Tinker Bell through beloved Disney and Pixar classics. Emotion and magic will light up the sky with a unique drone display and enchanting projections on Sleeping Beauty Castle.”

Other Bastille Day fireworks displays and public celebrations across France were also changed or canceled as authorities responded to the elevated fire risk.

Guests Report Difficult Summer Visits

The longer fireworks ban comes after several visitors expressed disappointment with recent conditions at Disneyland Paris.

The resort has introduced additional measures intended to help guests manage the heat, including shaded “refreshment zones,” more misting stations and updated information in its app showing where cooling areas are located.

However, some guests have said that high temperatures, attraction closures and entertainment changes have significantly affected their trips.

As one guest noted, “This is a once in a life time trip for us. We scrimped and saved to be here. We’ve brought everything to keep us cool, taken breaks in the shade, put on brave faces and tried to push through it, but I’m honestly done. … Its obviously not the park’s fault that it’s hot, but it has made the trip miserable, and there is no way to make it better.”

Others have raised similar concerns about outdoor attractions closing during the hottest parts of the day.

The disruption has been particularly noticeable at night, when fireworks are normally a central part of the Disneyland Paris entertainment schedule.

Disney Tales of Magic combines projections, fountains, drones, and pyrotechnics around Sleeping Beauty Castle. Disney Cascade of Lights uses similar large-scale effects at Disney Adventure World.

Both shows remain available, but neither is being presented in its standard form while the emergency restriction remains active.

A severe high-temperature warning was again in effect at Disneyland Paris on July 15. Cooler temperatures were forecast for the weekend and early the following week.
