Cinderella Castle Is Being Changed Again at Magic Kingdom

Cinderella Castle may have completed its major transformation, but Disney isn’t quite finished refreshing Magic Kingdom’s most recognizable location.

After wrapping up the extensive repainting of Cinderella Castle earlier this summer, Walt Disney World has now shifted its attention to the Cinderella Castle Forecourt Stage. According to WDWNT, construction crews have begun repainting and refurbishing the performance space positioned directly in front of the park’s centerpiece.

The latest project follows months of work that gave Cinderella Castle a refreshed appearance inspired by its classic design.

Earlier this year, Disney temporarily drained the castle moat so construction teams could reach the lower portions of the structure. Throughout the refurbishment, guests regularly spotted cranes, scaffolding, and elevated work platforms surrounding different sections of the castle as crews repainted everything from the tallest turrets to the stonework at ground level.

Disney also introduced an updated color scheme featuring soft gray stonework, cream accents, rich blue rooftops, and refreshed gold trim. The redesign marked a departure from the rose-pink color palette introduced for Cinderella‘s 70th anniversary in 2020 and maintained throughout Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary celebration. According to Disney, the new finish was intended to better reflect the castle’s original appearance while highlighting more of its architectural features.

Even after most of the repainting had wrapped up, one noticeable sign of the construction remained.

The moat surrounding Cinderella Castle stayed empty for weeks while work continued. That changed in early June, when Disney began pumping millions of gallons of water back into the waterway over the course of several days. Once the refill was complete, guests once again saw the familiar reflection of Cinderella Castle, signaling the completion of the landmark refurbishment.

Now construction activity has returned—but this time the focus is on the Forecourt Stage.

Rather than another major castle renovation, Disney appears to be giving the stage a cosmetic refresh. The venue has hosted years of character appearances, seasonal shows, and special entertainment offerings, making it one of the busiest performance spaces inside Magic Kingdom.

So far, there is no indication that Disney is making structural modifications to the stage itself. Instead, the work appears to consist primarily of repainting and general refurbishment so the venue better matches the newly restored castle behind it.

The project has had little effect on the guest experience. Walkways around Central Plaza remain open, while Cinderella Castle continues serving as the backdrop for daily entertainment, the Happily Ever After nighttime spectacular, and countless family photos.

With the castle repainting complete and the moat restored, the Forecourt Stage refurbishment appears to be one of the final pieces of Disney’s broader effort to refresh the entire castle complex. Once finished, the castle, its surrounding moat, and the iconic performance stage will all feature an updated appearance for guests visiting Magic Kingdom.

When he’s not thinking about the Magic Kingdom, Thomas is usually reading a book, becoming desperately obsessed with fictional characters, or baking something delicious (his favorite is chocolate cake -- to bake and to eat). At the Parks, he loves to ride Everest, stroll down Main Street with an overstuffed pin lanyard around his neck, and eat as many Mickey-shaped ice creams as possible. His favorite character is Han Solo (yes, he did shoot first), and his… More »
