Disney World Targets ‘Classics’ Again: 3 Magic Kingdom Rides Face 2026 Overhauls

For generations, Magic Kingdom has been home to attractions that define the Disney theme park experience. While many of those classics remain fan favorites, Disney has made it clear that even its most iconic rides and walkthroughs aren’t off limits when it comes to updates. Some changes have been subtle, while others have completely transformed familiar corners of the park.

That pattern continues in 2026. Three more longtime Magic Kingdom attractions are now receiving attention as Disney presses forward with its latest wave of projects, adding another chapter to the ongoing evolution of the park.

This opening creates a newsier feel, varies the structure from the original article, and keeps the specific attractions concealed until later in the story.

Magic Kingdom’s Classic Attractions Continue to Evolve

Disney has spent years updating older sections of Magic Kingdom, and many of those projects have dramatically changed the park’s landscape.

Splash Mountain gave way to Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. At the same time, Frontierland continues its transformation following the removal of the Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island, and the Liberty Square Riverboat for the upcoming Piston Peak expansion. Country Bear Jamboree also received an entirely new show, replacing performances that had entertained guests for decades.

Disney says these projects help introduce classic areas to new generations of visitors. At the same time, many longtime fans believe the park is slowly losing parts of its original identity.

That ongoing conversation has only intensified as more attractions enter refurbishment or undergo significant updates.

Carousel of Progress Receives a Modern Makeover

Few attractions have a history quite like Carousel of Progress.

After first debuting at the 1964-65 New York World’s Fair, the attraction became one of Magic Kingdom’s defining experiences. On July 6, 2026, it officially closed for an extensive refurbishment that will modernize the show while preserving its original concept.

Rather than starting over, Disney plans to continue following the same family through different eras of technological advancement. The refreshed story begins in the summer of 1969 with the Apollo moon landing, then progresses into the 1980s, the early 2000s, and eventually the present day.

Guests will also see an all-new Walt Disney Audio-Animatronic before the attraction begins, creating one of the most significant additions to Carousel of Progress in decades.

Although the rotating theater itself isn’t changing, the experience inside will look considerably different once it returns.

Swiss Family Treehouse Remains Open During Construction

Work is also taking place inside Adventureland.

Construction walls haven’t closed the Swiss Family Treehouse, but scaffolding and tree-themed scrims now surround sections of the iconic walkthrough attraction as crews complete maintenance work.

At the moment, everything suggests this is a standard refurbishment designed to preserve one of Magic Kingdom’s oldest attractions. Guests can still climb through the six-story treehouse without major interruptions.

Even so, questions about the attraction’s future continue to surface.

Disney has increasingly embraced recognizable franchises across its parks, while the Swiss Family Robinson story no longer enjoys the widespread popularity it once did. Although Disney hasn’t announced plans to replace the attraction, many fans continue wondering whether Adventureland could eventually receive another major reimagining.

Even the PeopleMover Reflects the Changes

Some updates are more subtle than others.

Guests riding the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover recently noticed that the attraction no longer references Carousel of Progress during its narration. Since Carousel of Progress is closed for refurbishment, Disney removed that portion of the script.

The adjustment is relatively small, but it shows how one refurbishment can affect other attractions throughout the park.

Once Carousel of Progress reopens, Disney could easily restore the announcement with updated wording that reflects the attraction’s refreshed storyline.

More Changes Could Be Waiting

Disney’s recent history suggests that Magic Kingdom will continue evolving in the years ahead.

Many fans expect Space Mountain to eventually receive a significant modernization, whether through updated effects, ride technology, or a larger refurbishment. Country Bear Jamboree has already demonstrated Disney’s willingness to rethink classic attractions rather than simply restore them.

Following recent incidents, some observers also believe Disney could eventually introduce additional operational changes, including seat belts on attractions such as Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and Pirates of the Caribbean.

Adventureland remains another area to watch. Rumors about a possible Moana-themed attraction have circulated for years, leading some fans to wonder whether Jungle Cruise could someday become part of a larger redevelopment. Disney has not announced any such plans.

The Conversation Isn’t Ending Anytime Soon

Magic Kingdom continues honoring its history while preparing for the future, and those goals don’t always satisfy every fan.

With Carousel of Progress undergoing a major overhaul, Swiss Family Treehouse receiving visible maintenance, and the PeopleMover already reflecting those changes, Disney’s latest projects show that even the park’s oldest attractions remain candidates for updates.

Whether guests embrace those changes or hope more classics stay untouched, one thing seems certain: the evolution of Magic Kingdom is far from over.
