Disney World Unveils Mandatory Hotel Wristband Policy
A popular fireworks viewing spot is off-limits this weekend.
Thousands of guests are expected to visit Walt Disney World Resort over the Fourth of July holiday, making it one of the busiest weekends of the summer. As crowds grow, Disney has once again introduced temporary measures to control access at one of its most popular hotels.

The latest policy affects Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, where visitors have long gathered to watch Magic Kingdom fireworks from the beach without entering the park. This year, Disney is taking extra steps to keep that area reserved for resort guests.
The move also comes after several operational changes across Walt Disney World in recent weeks, all of which have limited access to resort facilities for guests who aren’t staying on Disney property.
Disney Restricts Access at Polynesian Village Resort
Guests report that Disney is issuing wristbands to everyone staying at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort.
The wristbands are required to access both the resort’s Lava Pool and the Polynesian beach between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. on July 4.
Without a wristband, guests cannot enter the beach area, which is one of the most popular locations outside Magic Kingdom and EPCOT to watch the resort’s Independence Day fireworks.

Earlier this week, Disney cast members also installed barricades along the beach to separate guests with wristbands from everyone else.
The restriction appears to be temporary and is intended to manage the large crowds expected throughout the holiday weekend.
Disney is enforcing a similar policy at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, where only registered guests can take part in the annual Fourth of July golf cart parade.
Resort Access Continues to Tighten
The wristbands are the latest example of Disney tightening access to resort amenities.
On June 28, Walt Disney World began restricting buses and boats from Disney Springs. Guests can now only use those services if they’re staying at a Disney Resort hotel or have a dining or Enchanting Extras reservation within the next two hours.

Guests have also reported geofencing at several resort restaurants. Mobile ordering is now limited to those physically near Gasparilla Island Grill at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, Contempo Cafe and Steakhouse 71 To Go at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Capt. Cook’s and Kona Cafe To Go at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, and Roaring Fork and Geyser Point Bar & Grill To Go at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge.
Disney has also hinted at additional guest restrictions. Language on the Walt Disney World website promoting this year’s holiday entertainment suggested some offerings would be reserved for resort guests and visitors with dining reservations.
Some fans have also questioned whether Disney could eventually introduce similar controls for the Resort Monorail loop, although the company has not announced any plans to do so.

The Fourth of July wristbands themselves aren’t new. Disney has used similar measures at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort during previous Independence Day celebrations to control beach access.
This year, however, they arrive alongside a broader series of resort restrictions. While the wristbands are expected to disappear after the holiday weekend, they continue a recent trend of Disney giving hotel guests priority access to transportation, dining, and resort amenities.
