Universal Orlando Wipes Out Multiple Fan-Favorite Restaurants as Massive Purge Begins

Universal Orlando Resort visitors are preparing to say goodbye to several dining locations that have quietly become staples of the vacation experience over the years. While Epic Universe continues bringing new energy to the resort and major attractions keep opening, Universal has also confirmed that multiple longtime food spots are either closing soon or already gone for good.

For many guests, these aren’t just random restaurants disappearing from the map. Some became regular lunch stops, cooling-off locations during hot afternoons, or easy budget-friendly options after long park days. Together, the closures are beginning to reshape parts of Universal Orlando Resort in ways longtime visitors are noticing.

Thunder Falls Terrace Is Nearing Its Final Days

One of the biggest upcoming closures involves Thunder Falls Terrace at Islands of Adventure. Universal has confirmed the restaurant will close sometime during summer 2026.

Located beside Jurassic Park River Adventure, Thunder Falls Terrace built a strong following solely because of its location. Guests could relax in covered seating while watching ride boats plunge into the splashdown area nearby. On busy afternoons, especially during Florida summers, the restaurant became one of the few places inside the park where families could step away from crowded pathways for a little while.

It also developed a reputation for serving larger meals compared to many other quick-service spots around Universal Orlando Resort. That made it especially popular with families trying to stretch their vacation budgets.

The closure stands out because Jurassic Park has already changed significantly over the years. More Jurassic World elements continue to move into the land, while several older pieces tied to the original Jurassic Park atmosphere have slowly disappeared. For many longtime fans, Thunder Falls Terrace still carried that classic feeling.

Mythos Restaurant Marks Another Huge Loss

While Thunder Falls Terrace’s closure will impact guests, Mythos Restaurant’s shutdown in 2027 may hit even harder.

For years, Mythos helped Universal Orlando build a reputation for having legitimately strong theme park dining. Guests regularly praised the restaurant for its atmosphere, menu, and full-service experience inside Islands of Adventure.

Even people who had never been there usually recognized the towering rockwork exterior of The Lost Continent.

The closure also continues the slow transformation of that entire section of the park. Poseidon’s Fury permanently closed in 2023, and construction continues to change parts of the area as Universal focuses more on newer experiences across the resort.

Still, Mythos remained one of the last major pieces of the original Islands of Adventure identity.

Many longtime visitors view it as part of the era that made Islands of Adventure feel unique when the park first opened. Once it closes, another major part of that original experience disappears.

Burger King Quietly Filled an Important Role

Not every closure involved heavily themed restaurants.

Earlier in April 2026, Burger King officially closed at Universal CityWalk. While losing a fast-food chain may not sound major compared to Thunder Falls Terrace or Mythos, many guests immediately noticed the difference.

Burger King offered visitors a quick, familiar, and cheaper option than many CityWalk restaurants. Families leaving the parks late at night often stopped there because they could grab food quickly without paying for a sit-down meal after already spending heavily all day.

The location also worked well for guests staying at nearby hotels who simply wanted something convenient before heading back to their rooms.

Its closure reflects a broader trend at Universal Orlando Resort. Many simpler, lower-cost food options continue to disappear, while newer dining experiences lean more heavily on upscale theming and immersive concepts.

Plenty of Dining Favorites Still Remain

Even with these closures, Universal Orlando Resort still offers a strong lineup of dining locations across the resort.

CityWalk remains one of the most popular nighttime destinations thanks to spots like Toothsome Chocolate Emporium, Voodoo Doughnut, NBC Sports Grill & Brew, and Antojitos.

Inside Islands of Adventure, guests still pack restaurants like Three Broomsticks, Green Eggs and Ham Cafe, and Confisco Grille throughout the day.

Universal Studios Florida also continues drawing crowds to Leaky Cauldron, Mel’s Drive-In, and Lombard’s Seafood Grille.

Epic Universe has expanded Universal’s food lineup even more with heavily themed restaurants inside Celestial Park, Dark Universe, SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, and the Ministry of Magic area.

Universal Orlando Continues To Evolve

Universal Orlando Resort has always balanced nostalgia with expansion. Guests could still experience older sections of the parks while also enjoying major additions like The Wizarding World of Harry Potter and Epic Universe.

Now, though, several longtime staples are disappearing much faster.

Thunder Falls Terrace, Mythos, and Burger King may seem completely unrelated at first. Together, however, they reveal how quickly Universal Orlando continues evolving.

The resort clearly wants bigger intellectual properties, more premium experiences, and newer offerings designed to encourage longer vacations.

For some guests, that evolution feels exciting.

For longtime fans, however, it also means saying goodbye to places that once felt like permanent parts of every Universal Orlando trip.
