‘Jurassic Park’ Going Back to Horror Roots With Brand-New Installment
Another Jurassic movie is reportedly in early development following the success of Jurassic World Rebirth (2025), although Universal Pictures hasn’t announced anything yet.
Still, after years of increasingly chaotic sequels involving hybrids, human clones, global threats, and mutant dinosaurs, many fans aren’t expecting the films to suddenly return to the stripped-back survival horror tone that made the original Park era so effective. Ironically, the next project that will finally being back that atmosphere isn’t a movie at all.

The upcoming Saber Interactive video game Jurassic Park: Survival (TBA) takes place one day after the events of the original Jurassic Park (1993) and centers on Dr. Maya Joshi, an InGen scientist who has somehow been left behind on Isla Nublar after the park collapses.
But rather than leaning into explosive action, the first-person title focuses on stealth, isolation, and surviving encounters with dinosaurs that are “reactive” and have their own “own “distinct and adaptive behaviors”, according to the official website for the game.”

Saber’s approach is clear from the cinematic trailer, the behind-the-scenes featurette shared last summer, and the official website for the game, all of which promise the same kind of tension-filled ride that had audiences on the edges of their theater seats in 1993.
Both Michael Crichton’s novels, Jurassic Park and The Lost World, were deeply horror-driven stories filled with graphic violence and suspense. Steven Spielberg translated much of that tension directly into Jurassic Park (1993) through iconic scenes like the T. rex breakout and the raptor kitchen attack, while The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997) pushed even harder into darker territory. Sadly, Jurassic Park III (2001) leaned more into action.

The Jurassic World era leaned heavily on blockbuster spectacle to wow audiences, all the while losing the kind of tension that helped make the original 1993 film, and in part its 1997 sequel, so memorable. Instead of raptors in dimly lit kitchens, we get raptors chasing people on motorbikes through city streets. And instead of T. rexes flipping over vehicles during thunderstorms, we see the King of Dinosaurs battling it out with genetic hybrids.
But with Survival, it’s clear the tour of the original park is far from over.
