NEW: National Park Theme Will Also Take Over Remaining Tom Sawyer Island at Disneyland
The national park takeover of Tom Sawyer Island isn’t exclusive to the East Coast anymore. Disneyland Park is getting its own makeover this summer, and Mickey Mouse is leading the charge.
“Explore, Discover, Collect” on Tom Sawyer Island

WDWNT reported on May 12 that a sign for “Mickey’s Park Rangers” had been spotted on Tom Sawyer Island at Disneyland Park in Southern California.
The logo pairs a Mickey-head silhouette with the tagline “Explore, Discover, Collect,” and Disney cast members confirmed to the outlet that the branding is tied to an incoming scavenger hunt set to take over the island and spread into other corners of the original Southern California theme park this summer.
The free, kid-focused activity will send participants across Tom Sawyer Island and beyond — including boats, canoes, and potentially the Disneyland Railroad — collecting stamps at various stops along the way. A sticker prize awaits at the finish line. The experience is expected to launch either next Friday or Saturday and run through at least the end of summer, though no decision has been announced on whether it will stick around permanently after that.

Guests already fond of the island’s existing Pirate’s Lair experience — an addition that arrived alongside Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End in 2007 — won’t have to choose between the two. The Pirate’s Lair is expected to remain intact and undisturbed throughout the Mickey’s Park Rangers Scavenger Hunt.
How the West Coast Differs From the East
Walt Disney World Resort permanently closed its version of Tom Sawyer Island — along with the Rivers of America and the Liberty Square Riverboat — at Magic Kingdom Park in the summer of 2025. In its place, construction is underway on Piston Peak National Park, a Frontierland expansion themed to Pixar’s Cars (2006).

The new land will introduce two attractions to the Magic Kingdom: a rally race thrill ride and a family-friendly experience built around an all-new character named Park Ranger J. Autobahn Woodlore. Walt Disney World Resort has not announced a grand opening date for Piston Peak National Park.
