Disney World Confirms Permanent End to Classic Magic Kingdom Welcome Show

Disney World mornings are changing again with the permanent end of Magic Kingdom’s welcome show.

Magic Kingdom has spent the past year in a near-constant state of transformation as Walt Disney World pushes through some of its biggest park changes in decades.

Frontierland has become the center of that overhaul. Disney permanently closed the Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island, and the Liberty Square Riverboat in 2025 to clear space for the new Cars-themed Piston Peak expansion, with heavy construction now visible behind themed walls across the land.

Elsewhere, Disney recently reopened Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin
after revamps and launched the new Disney Starlight nighttime parade in 2025. The resort is also preparing for work to ramp up on the long-promised Villains Land expansion beyond Big Thunder Mountain.

Even Cinderella Castle has not escaped the changes.

Disney spent much of early 2026 repainting Magic Kingdom’s icon, scaling back the bright pink tones introduced during the resort’s 50th anniversary celebration. The updated look restores softer blues, creams, grays, and gold accents closer to the castle’s original 1971 appearance.

Now, Disney has announced another permanent change tied to that refurbishment project.

Magic Kingdom Quietly Retires Live Opening Ceremony

Disney has confirmed that Magic Kingdom’s morning welcome show will remain permanently scaled back, ending the live version of “Let the Magic Begin” for good.

The Magic Kingdom “Let the Magic Begin” welcome show will remain audio-only moving forward. The change was introduced earlier this year during Cinderella Castle painting work. And starting Sunday, Mickey’s Magical Friendship Faire adds a morning performance at 11:10 am.

Disney quietly removed the “Let the Magic Begin” webpage from its official site earlier this week, effectively confirming that the live show is not returning after the castle repainting work concludes.

The stage show debuted in 2017 after Disney retired the park’s longtime train station welcome performance near the entrance to Main Street, U.S.A.

That newer version moved the opening ceremony directly in front of Cinderella Castle. Mickey Mouse and other Disney characters would welcome guests to Magic Kingdom moments before the official park opening and rope drop procedures began.

The live performances stopped earlier this year as construction crews worked around sections of Cinderella Castle during the repainting project.

Many Disney World fans assumed the simplified voiceover version was temporary. Disney has now confirmed otherwise.

The change also continues a wider operational shift across Walt Disney World. EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom already use recorded announcements rather than live opening entertainment before guests enter attractions and lands for the day.

Disney Expands Castle Entertainment Despite Cutbacks

Disney is slightly increasing live entertainment elsewhere at Cinderella Castle despite permanently retiring the live welcome show.

Beginning May 10, Mickey’s Magical Friendship Faire will add a new 11:10 a.m. performance to the daily lineup.

The stage show features characters and music from Tangled (2010), Frozen (2013), and The Princess and the Frog (2009), giving guests another daytime entertainment option in front of the castle.

Operationally, the morning experience at Magic Kingdom will remain largely the same.

Guests arriving before the official opening will still wait inside designated areas before Disney releases visitors into individual lands once the recorded welcome message finishes and attractions begin operating.

The difference is atmosphere.

For years, live opening shows became part of the routine for repeat Disney World visitors, particularly rope drop guests arriving early to maximize ride access at attractions like Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, TRON Lightcycle / Run, and Space Mountain.

The removal of live performers marks another subtle shift away from smaller entertainment offerings that once defined the pacing of a Magic Kingdom day.

Do you think Disney has made the right move axing “Let the Magic Begin”?
