Starting Monday, Disneyland Resort guests looking for a Toy Story (1995) fix are down to exactly one option.
Two Rides Down, One Left Standing
Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters goes offline at Disneyland Park on April 13, joining Toy Story Midway Mania! — which closed at Disney California Adventure Park on April 6 — behind refurbishment walls with no confirmed return date. That leaves Jessie’s Critter Carousel as the sole attraction inspired by the Pixar franchise available to guests at Disneyland Resort for the foreseeable future.
Disneyland Resort announced the Buzz Lightyear closure earlier this year without sharing any details about the work or when the Tomorrowland ride will reopen.
The Florida Version
Walt Disney World Resort’s version of the attraction, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin at Magic Kingdom Park, just reopened on April 8 after nearly eight months of work. The Florida version delivered a notably upgraded experience: new ride vehicles, redesigned handheld blasters, enhanced interactive targets, and a brand-new audio-animatronic robot character, Buddy, integrated into the ride.
Disneyland Resort has made no mention of plans to bring those same upgrades to Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters.
What Might Be Behind It
A couple of timelines make the dual closures worth watching. Toy Story Midway Mania! received Disneyland70 anniversary-themed graphics and targets last summer, and that celebration runs through August. That could explain why the ride hasn’t been given a return date before then.
Alternatively, Toy Story 5 hits theaters on June 19, 2026. With two Toy Story-themed rides simultaneously offline ahead of a new chapter in the franchise, it’s at least possible that Imagineers are quietly working in references or updates tied to the film before it opens. Disneyland Resort has not confirmed this, and both attractions could just as easily reopen without any visible changes at all.
