We think about park hours more than most people. Partly because knowing when a park closes affects when you eat dinner, which is very much our department.
Partly because we have been burned before by a well-planned evening at Walt Disney World evaporating because we did not check the calendar carefully enough. So when two separate early park closures landed on the Walt Disney World schedule for May and June 2026, we paid attention and we are sharing it with you now because this is exactly the kind of thing that does not announce itself loudly enough.
Magic Kingdom closes to regular guests at 5:30 p.m. on May 13. Hollywood Studios closes to regular guests at 6:00 p.m. on June 18. Both closures are for private corporate events that have bought out the parks for the evening. If either of those dates is anywhere near your trip, keep reading.
Magic Kingdom on May 13: 5:30 P.M. and That Is It
The SAP Sapphire and ASUG Annual Conference is running May 11 through 13 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando and they have purchased an exclusive evening at Magic Kingdom for conference attendees. The private “Celebration Night at Magic Kingdom” runs from approximately 7:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. and includes exclusive attraction access, character appearances, and a concert by The Dave Matthews Band in front of Cinderella Castle.
That sounds like a great night. Unfortunately it is not available to regular guests. The park closes to everyone without a conference badge at 5:30 p.m. and the private event runs after that. Guests with park tickets for May 13 can visit during normal daytime hours and must be out by 5:30 p.m. No exceptions.
Here is why this matters more than a typical early close. Magic Kingdom at night is genuinely different from Magic Kingdom during the day, and for a lot of guests the whole point of staying late is Happily Ever After, the fireworks spectacular in front of Cinderella Castle. That show is the emotional centerpiece of a Magic Kingdom day for so many people. A 5:30 p.m. close on May 13 means no fireworks, no nighttime parade, no that-moment-in-front-of-the-castle. If your Magic Kingdom day was built around the evening experience, May 13 is the wrong day to go.
On the flip side, if you are primarily a rides person and fireworks are a bonus rather than the point, early closure days tend to produce lighter daytime crowds because guests who want the full evening experience choose a different day. May 13 at Magic Kingdom could actually be one of the less crowded mid-May days specifically because of the early close. Shorter wait times are a real benefit if you are willing to give up the evening.
If you are in Walt Disney World on May 13 and you want an evening Disney experience after Magic Kingdom closes, EPCOT has Luminous: The Symphony of Us over World Showcase Lagoon, which we will note has excellent options for dinner nearby before the show. Hollywood Studios offers Fantasmic! on select evenings. Neither is Happily Ever After but both are genuinely good ways to spend a May 13 evening without just calling it early and heading back to the resort.
One more thing: if you have a dining reservation inside Magic Kingdom after 5:30 p.m. on May 13, that reservation needs to be moved today. Not eventually. Today.
Hollywood Studios on June 18: 6:00 P.M. Close
SHRM, the Society for Human Resource Management, is hosting its annual SHRM26 conference and they are doing an after-hours evening at Hollywood Studios for attendees. The park closes to regular guests at 6:00 p.m. and reopens exclusively for the conference from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. The usual 9:00 p.m. close for surrounding dates makes this a three-hour cut to the operating day.

Magic Kingdom is open 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. with early entry from 8:30 a.m. EPCOT is open 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. with early entry from 8:30 a.m. and a Disney After Hours special ticketed event from 9:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Animal Kingdom is open 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with early entry from 7:30 a.m. Hollywood Studios is open 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with early entry from 8:30 a.m.
The good news for June 18 is that Magic Kingdom is open until 10:00 p.m. and EPCOT until 9:00 p.m. on the same day. If you are visiting Hollywood Studios for the morning and afternoon and want a full evening somewhere, you have real options without any additional planning gymnastics. Just build your day as a morning and afternoon Hollywood Studios experience and head to Magic Kingdom or EPCOT for the evening.
And again: if you have a dining reservation inside Hollywood Studios after 6:00 p.m. on June 18, move it. There are great dining options at Magic Kingdom and EPCOT that can absorb an evening reservation, and you will want to make those changes while availability is still reasonable.
What This Means for Your Actual Trip
Both of these closures follow the same pattern. The park runs normally during daytime hours. The early close only hurts you if you planned around the evening. Guests who are flexible or who are primarily focused on daytime riding can actually benefit from the lighter crowds that early closure dates tend to produce.
For guests with fixed trip dates, structure both days as morning and afternoon park visits and build your evenings around a different park or a resort dining experience. For guests with flexible itineraries, consider whether reassigning those parks to different days in your trip better serves what you actually want from each.
And check your dining reservations. We cannot stress this enough. An evening reservation inside a closed park is a frustrating discovery to make the week before travel when your rebooking options are limited.
