Disneyland Paris Welcomes Replacement for Sleeping Beauty Castle

Disneyland Paris Resort has reopened the bridge leading to Sleeping Beauty Castle after a months-long closure, unveiling a rebuilt structure with new materials and a colorful new centerpiece underfoot.

A Closure That Ran Long

The bridge to the castle at Disneyland Park (Paris) closed in May. Construction walls kept guests away from the area, and the resort later covered those barriers with scrims printed with images of the castle’s base, which helped keep vacation photos from being spoiled.

Disneyland Paris Resort originally promised that access would return in “late September 2026.” That date passed, and the bridge was still closed. The reopening now arrives 34 years after Sleeping Beauty Castle debuted alongside Disneyland Park in 1992.

What Was Rebuilt

On Monday, October 12, the resort shared its first look at the finished work. According to Disneyland Paris Resort, cast members completely rebuilt the structure that supports the bridge’s decorative elements. They also replaced the wooden balustrade posts and the drawbridge deck. The arch beneath the bridge was assembled from 2,735 individual hand-sculpted synthetic stone pieces.

The drawbridge deck was redesigned from scratch. The original stamped concrete gave way to new waterproof granite paving, which the resort says looks better, is more durable, and is easier to maintain.

A New Compass Rose

The most eye-catching addition is a compass rose crafted from natural stone and brass. Blue and red sections are joined by a green arc, with each color standing for one of the three fairies from Sleeping Beauty (1959): Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather. A brass medallion at the center carries an engraving of Princess Aurora’s crown.
