If you’ve ever spent time exploring Walt Disney World beyond the parks, you already know how much the resorts add to the experience. Resort hopping isn’t just something to fill time—it’s something fans genuinely plan around. And one of the most popular stops on that unofficial tour has always been Disney’s Wilderness Lodge.

But if you’re heading there soon, things are about to look a little different.
Beginning April 13, the boat docks at Wilderness Lodge will temporarily close for refurbishment. While this won’t last forever, it does remove one of the most relaxing and scenic transportation options guests have when traveling to and from Magic Kingdom.
For many visitors, that boat ride isn’t just convenient—it’s part of the experience. There’s something about stepping off a busy park day and onto a quiet boat, cruising across the water, that feels like a reset button. Losing that—even for a short period—changes how the day flows.
Now, to be clear, this doesn’t mean you can’t visit Wilderness Lodge. You absolutely still can. Disney will be running buses between the resort and Magic Kingdom during the closure, so access isn’t going away. It’s just shifting.
And that’s where the difference comes in.
Buses get the job done, but they don’t offer the same atmosphere. The boat feels like an extension of the resort experience. The bus feels like transportation. It’s a small distinction, but if you’ve done both, you know it matters.

This change may especially impact guests who like to leave Magic Kingdom for a mid-day break or a dining reservation. Wilderness Lodge is a go-to for that, thanks to its peaceful setting and standout restaurants. Without the boat, it takes a bit more effort to make that quick escape.
The good news is that this disruption won’t last long. Boat service is expected to return on May 1, even though work on the dock itself may continue into the summer. So if your trip falls just outside that April window, you may not notice much of a difference at all.
Still, this is part of a larger trend happening across Walt Disney World right now. Refurbishments are everywhere, and Wilderness Lodge is no exception. Updates are ongoing throughout the resort, including areas like Copper Creek Cabins and Villas, and that work is expected to continue through late 2026.

So while this dock closure might seem small, it’s really just one piece of a bigger picture.
If you’re planning a trip soon, the takeaway is simple: plan ahead. Know that transportation will look a little different for a few weeks, and build that into your schedule.
Because at Disney World, it’s often the little changes that end up shaping your entire day.
