Disney Security Accused of Defying Rules, Calling Police on Guests

Disneyland Resort security is facing accusations of arbitrarily enforcing non-existent medication rules after calling police on a theme park guest carrying two legal sleeping pills in a baggie.

The incident shared by Reddit user u/wanderingraccoon85 earlier this month occurred despite Disneyland Resort’s official policy allowing guests to bring medication into Disneyland Park or Disney California Adventure Park without original containers or labels.

Police Called Over Offered Solution

The Southern California Disney Park guest’s wife carried two sleeping pills in a small baggie to save space instead of bringing the full bottle. When security discovered the medication and questioned her about it, she immediately offered to resolve the situation:

“My wife explained to them what the pills were for and said that since it’s not clear, they can just throw them away.”

Security rejected the solution and escalated the situation.

“What they did was call the police,” the Redditor explained. “The police asked a few questions and just suggested throwing it away.”

The couple entered Disneyland Resort after speaking with the police, but the experience soured their vacation:

“I understand the security concerns. I understand that there are many people trying to bring drugs through, but, man, you’re an amusement park. If you can prevent a violation, do it, but what’s the point of escalating it? Where is the trust in your guests and common sense? I mean, even at the airport, where security is about people’s lives, it’s not like this. After that, all those ‘hello friend’ things were so fake.”

Disneyland Resort permits bringing prescription and over-the-counter medication into the theme parks, hotels, and Downtown Disney. Only illegal substances and cannabis (including medical marijuana) are prohibited.

Disneyland Resort’s official rules don’t require guests to label medication or present the original containers. An official planDisney panelist confirmed this on March 14, 2026:

“We often travel with little ones, who require a lot of packed extras, including medicine. We typically keep their medications, including prescription medications, in a travel pill dispenser. It’s never been an issue for us going through security. There’s nothing currently in the park rules about bringing medication into the parks in its original container. However, park rules are subject to change, and it’s always up to the cast member working to decide at their discretion what can and cannot safely enter the parks.”

Pattern of Arbitrary Enforcement

Other guests documented inconsistent experiences bringing medication into Disneyland Resort.

“DL security is so inconsistent, I swear they just decide on things depending on their mood,” u/NoContribution9879 wrote. “I have had a little pill case in my purse every single time I have ever been to Disneyland, and have never once had anyone even ask about it. It’s literally a little plastic container in the shape of a pill, lol. I really hate that they can’t establish real guidelines for this stuff.”

“When I was pregnant and going to Disneyland I had my prenatal gummies in a plastic container,” U/Slaytert0t replied. “The security guy asked me about them, I said ‘prenatal gummies,’ and he put them back and let me through. They could have easily been cannabis gummies. I think it just depends on the security person.”

Other Disneyland Security Complaints

Some social media users described other negative encounters with security cast members at Disneyland Resort.

“I’m still salty about how security handled our search on the day I got engaged,” U/Kindly_Conflict4659 commented. “We decided we both wanted to propose on the same day just how was gonna be a surprise. The guard found both ring boxes and like took them both out and made us very deliberately open both of them in full view of the other. Like went out of his way to do so. It wasn’t a secret for us but for most others that would have really soured the memory.”

The last time I went, I watched the security lady open up what looked like a sealed can of Pringles from the group in front of me,” said u/H20fairy. “I have never seen them check that thoroughly. It seemed really unnecessary. I’ve never seen them open factory sealed items before and I used to have an annual pass.”

Disneyland Resort hasn’t addressed the Reddit accusations publicly.
