‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ Brings Back Character “Killed off” in Disney+ Series
Since its debut on Disney+ back in 2019, The Mandalorian breathed new life into Star Wars with bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his Force-sensitive companion, Grogu (AKA “Baby Yoda”). After three seasons, the series seemingly concluded in 2023, but now, we’re getting a big-screen continuation.
The Mandalorian and Grogu (2026) continues the adventures of Din and Grogu as they hunt scattered Imperial warlords and aid the New Republic. Watch the trailer below:
Several Mandalorian Characters Are Absent
However, while Din and Grogu are obviously back, several major characters from the Disney+ series will not return, including The Armorer (Emily Swallow), Peli Motto (Amy Sedaris), IG-11 (Taika Waititi), Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito), Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen), and Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson).
While cameos are always possible, some longstanding characters can instantly be ruled out, including Cara Dune, as Gina Carano was famously fired from The Mandalorian in 2021, and Greef Karga, as Carl Weathers passed away in 2024.

The only other confirmed character who previously appeared in The Mandalorian (2019) other than Din and Grogu is Zeb Orrelios, the character best known for the animated series Star Wars Rebels (2014), while Trapper Wolf (played by Lucasfilm CCO and co-President Dave Filoni) and Carson Teva (Paul Sun-Hyung Lee) are also expected to return.
New characters include Colonel Ward (Sigourney Weaver) and Rotta the Hutt (Jeremy Allen White).

Somehow, One Character Has Returned…
There is, however, another “character” who has also been confirmed: the Razor Crest.
Din Djarin’s iconic ship was famously destroyed in Season 2 and was swiftly replaced by an N-1 Starfighter, which is why fans were quick to point that out when the first trailer for the upcoming film premiered last year. Now, we know that it’s the exact same model.
During an appearance at New York Toy Fair in February, The Mandalorian & Grogu director Jon Favreau addressed the ship’s return. Per GeekTyrant, he said, “[Din’s] in the Razor Crest now, which is the ship he originally had,” adding, “He’s in the same model of ship.”
A LEGO set for the upcoming film also confirms that it’s the original Razor Crest model, but with added yellow stripes along its hull. The return of the bounty hunter’s ship — which is designed to hold criminals in carbonite in its cargo area — makes very little sense, even if it does fit with the story picking up post-Season 3 as Din continues to pursue Imperial remnants for the New Republic.

While the film introduces new characters and locations, Din and Grogu remain the heart of the story. The Razor Crest’s return signals a bridge between Disney+ storytelling and the theatrical expansion of the Star Wars universe.
The Mandalorian and Grogu releases in theaters on May 22.
