Confirmed: Lucasfilm Teases Major Anakin Skywalker Change for 2027 ‘Ahsoka’ Return
Star Wars fans have been eagerly waiting for new information about Ahsoka Season 2, and Lucasfilm has finally delivered another intriguing preview of what’s on the way. While much of the upcoming season remains a closely guarded secret, one reveal has immediately grabbed attention. Hayden Christensen is returning as Anakin Skywalker, but the Jedi won’t appear exactly as audiences remember him from Season 1.
The latest details suggest Lucasfilm is continuing to build on Anakin’s return instead of simply repeating what worked before. Combined with hints about new mysteries waiting on Peridea, the upcoming season is already giving fans plenty to discuss before it arrives on Disney+.
Why Anakin’s Return Matters
Christensen’s appearance in the first season of Ahsoka became one of the series’ biggest talking points. After stepping back into the role in Obi-Wan Kenobi, the actor reunited with Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka Tano in a story that finally brought their master-and-apprentice relationship into live action.
Their encounter in the World Between Worlds stood out as one of the season’s emotional peaks. Rather than serving as simple fan service, the scenes explored the lasting impact Anakin had on Ahsoka while giving both characters meaningful development.
Although Christensen appeared more than once during the season, Episode 5 became the centerpiece of his return. Many viewers have since hoped Dave Filoni would give Anakin an even larger role in the next chapter, and the latest preview has only fueled those expectations.
A Private Preview Offers New Clues
Lucasfilm first confirmed Christensen’s return during Star Wars Celebration Japan in April 2025, just before filming began on Season 2. Rosario Dawson returns as Ahsoka, while Dave Filoni continues overseeing the series as Lucasfilm’s president and chief creative officer.
Another update arrived during Disney’s Upfront presentation in New York City, where attendees watched an exclusive sizzle reel for the upcoming season. Dawson also announced that Ahsoka Season 2 is expected to debut on Disney+ in early 2027.
Since Lucasfilm hasn’t publicly released the footage, fans have pieced together information from attendees of the presentation. One of the most detailed descriptions came from fandom and theme park creator Juliet Nuzzo, who shared her observations on Instagram.
Among the biggest surprises was Anakin himself. According to Nuzzo, Christensen appears wearing a completely different outfit than the one fans saw during Season 1.
Christensen Embraces Another Version of Anakin
Nuzzo described Anakin’s updated costume as a “whole new glorious fit,” immediately sparking conversation across the Star Wars community.
That change follows a pattern established during the first season. Christensen appeared in dark Jedi robes during the World Between Worlds sequence before later wearing Clone Wars armor in flashback scenes. The new design adds yet another chapter to Anakin’s visual history while allowing Lucasfilm to revisit a different period of the character’s life.
Christensen has already spoken positively about seeing Anakin evolve. During Star Wars Celebration, he said, “As much as I love the traditional Jedi robes I wore during the prequels, it was exciting to get to see Anakin with a new look.”
The teaser may also hint that Lucasfilm plans to feature Anakin more heavily this time around. Because he appears so prominently in the footage, many fans believe the relationship between Anakin and Ahsoka could receive even more attention throughout Season 2.
Another Lightsaber Raises New Questions
The costume wasn’t the only detail that caught Nuzzo’s attention.
She also mentioned seeing a lightsaber she couldn’t identify, saying it “does not seem like something we’ve seen on screen before.”
That observation immediately raises questions because Ahsoka already includes a diverse collection of lightsabers. Ahsoka carries her signature white blades, Sabine trains with Ezra Bridger’s green lightsaber, Ezra now wields a newly built blue weapon, while Baylan Skoll and Shin Hati fight with distinctive orange blades.
The mysterious weapon could tie into Season 2’s growing focus on ancient Force mythology. Concept footage shown during Star Wars Celebration teased “the powers of the occult” alongside “ancient machines from a dark and terrible past.” With the Great Mothers returning to Peridea and Baylan, now portrayed by Rory McCann, who continues his search for an ancient power, several explanations remain possible.
Another theory involves Huyang. Teasers shown during Celebration revealed that the ancient droid professor will step into the action during Season 2, making him another possible owner of the unidentified weapon.
Nuzzo also summarized the footage in six simple words: “More Anakin, more Sabine, more Chopper.”
That description lines up with where the story left off. Sabine remains stranded alongside Ahsoka on Peridea after finally beginning to unlock her Force abilities. At the same time, Chopper’s return and Zeb’s confirmed appearance continue to bring more members of the Ghost crew back together.
More Answers Are Still Ahead
Lucasfilm continues to reveal only small pieces of Ahsoka Season 2, but every new detail adds another layer of excitement. Between Anakin Skywalker’s updated appearance, the possibility of a larger role for Hayden Christensen, and questions surrounding a mysterious new lightsaber, fans have no shortage of theories.
