Former Disney Star Christy Carlson Romano Shares Positive Cancer Test Results

Former Disney Channel star Christy Carlson Romano has shared a serious health update after receiving positive results from a recent cancer screening.

Romano, 41, revealed the news in an emotional video posted online, where she appeared tearful while speaking directly to her followers. While she did not share full medical details, Romano confirmed that her screening results came back positive, prompting concern from fans and an outpouring of support across social media.

Romano is best known for playing Ren Stevens on Disney Channel’s Even Stevens (2000), one of the network’s most popular early sitcoms. Her performance as the sharp and outspoken older sister made her a familiar face to Disney audiences during the early 2000s. She later went on to voice the title character in Kim Possible (2002), another major Disney Channel success that helped cement her status as one of the most recognizable stars from the era.

In her video, Romano explained that she and her husband, Brendan Rooney, decided to undergo cancer screenings together. She said the decision was influenced partly by her family’s history of cancer and partly by the recent death of actor James Van Der Beek, who passed away last week at age 48 from colorectal cancer.

Romano told viewers she felt “nervous” and “a bit scared” as she awaits additional information about what her results mean moving forward. The actress did not clarify whether the screening detected cancer directly or whether further testing is needed, but her message made it clear she is taking the situation seriously.

Since sharing the update, Romano has received widespread encouragement from fans, many of whom grew up watching her on Disney Channel and have continued following her career in adulthood. Her announcement has also sparked renewed discussion online about the importance of preventative screenings and early detection.

At this time, Romano has not shared information about treatment plans or next steps. However, her post suggests she is working closely with doctors and awaiting further clarity.

We send our thoughts and prayers to Romano and her family and wish the very best.
