‘Star Wars’ and Avengers Crossover Rumor Gains Momentum
Two of Disney’s most powerful franchises have spent years orbiting the same corporate universe without ever colliding. But that separation may soon change.
In 2009, The Walt Disney Company acquired Marvel Entertainment for $4 billion. Three years later, it purchased Lucasfilm for $4.05 billion, bringing Star Wars under the same corporate umbrella. The acquisitions reshaped blockbuster filmmaking.

Avengers: Endgame and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker marked the end of major saga arcs in 2019. Both franchises pivoted quickly toward expansion across streaming and theatrical releases.
Marvel maintained box office momentum with Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) and Deadpool & Wolverine (2024). However, several Disney+ series struggled to match earlier cultural impact.
Lucasfilm followed a similar path. The Mandalorian, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and The Acolyte expanded the galaxy on streaming, with some generating more praise than others. The Mandalorian and Grogu is slated to return Star Wars to cinemas in 2026, with its performance deciding the future of the studio’s cinematic slate.

Marvel is also recalibrating, positioning Avengers: Doomsday (2026) as a major ensemble reset on par with Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Endgame, even bringing back Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Anthony and Joe Russo to make it happen.
Amid that broader strategic adjustment, a new rumor has surfaced.
A Potential Crossover Project Emerges
According to Bleeding Cool, writer Mark Millar is developing a crossover comic uniting Marvel and Star Wars. If confirmed, it would represent the first large-scale cross-continuity project between the two properties.
As noted by Bleeding Cool, this comic series would mark the “first full-blown cross-continuity Star Wars project.”
Millar previously wrote several major Marvel Comics arcs, including Civil War. He is also known as a longtime Star Wars fan, a connection that reportedly helped bring Mark Hamill into Kingsman: The Secret Service, adapted from a comic Millar co-created.

The rumor gained momentum after Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, claiming that a “Star Wars/Avengers” comic is in the works.
There has been no official confirmation from Marvel, Lucasfilm, or Disney.
ComicsPRO runs from February 18 through February 21 — a trade event where major publishing announcements are frequently unveiled. If the crossover exists, that venue would provide a natural stage.
Strategic Timing for Both Brands
Marvel’s publishing arm has increasingly leaned into crossover events. The Avengers have clashed with Xenomorphs and Predator. Godzilla has entered the Marvel Universe. A recent DC collaboration paired Batman with Deadpool.
Within that context, a Marvel–Star Wars crossover would be unexpected, yet consistent with broader publishing strategy.

Narrative mechanics would not pose a major obstacle. Marvel’s Multiverse has long provided structural flexibility for cross-franchise encounters.
More significant is the business alignment. Both franchises are entering transitional periods. Both are preparing high-profile theatrical returns in 2026. A crossover comic would generate renewed conversation without requiring immediate film production.
At this stage, the project remains unconfirmed. If it materializes, it would mark a notable shift in how Disney leverages its two most valuable genre properties — and how closely those worlds are allowed to intersect.
Do you think a Star Wars-Marvel comic crossover is a good idea?
