Surprise! Disney World Debuts New ‘Star Wars’ Area Overnight

A new guest amenity has quietly appeared in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios after months of behind-the-scenes construction. The seating area near the Toy Story Land entrance officially opened without announcement, providing much-needed rest space as Walt Disney World Resort prepares to implement the land’s major timeline shift later this year.

Summer Construction Project Complete

Construction crews have finished work on a guest seating area they began last summer at the border between Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and Toy Story Land. On Sunday, BlogMickey confirmed that the space is now fully operational and accessible to Disney’s Hollywood Studios guests.

The seating installation coincided with the construction of the nearby Popcorn & Snacks kiosk that opened in Toy Story Land earlier this month. The timing suggests Walt Disney World Resort coordinated both projects to address the area’s shortage of places for guests to rest and consume food purchases.

The new space features multiple benches carved to resemble the surrounding rock formations, matching Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge’s Batuu aesthetic. Wooden tables and stools offer additional seating capacity beyond the rock-integrated benches.

The seating area solves a persistent problem near Toy Story Land. Guests have complained for years about the lack of tables near Woody’s Lunch Box Quick Service restaurant. With Disney opening another snack stand—Popcorn & Snacks—in Toy Story Land, the company recognized expanding food sales without corresponding seating would worsen the existing shortage.

The location between both lands allows the seating to serve multiple purposes, accommodating Woody’s Lunch Box diners, Popcorn & Snacks customers purchasing pepperoni pizza spring rolls, and Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge visitors who need a break.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Timeline Shift Preparation Continues

The seating area’s debut comes weeks after Disney announced plans to fundamentally alter the timeline of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Later this year, half the land will transition to the original Lucasfilm trilogy era, while the other half will maintain its sequel trilogy setting.

Changes include rebranding First Order Cargo as Black Spire Surplus, which will sell Galactic Civil War artifacts alongside existing merchandise rather than exclusively Dark Side items. Oga’s Cantina will receive thematic updates reflecting its earlier timeline placement. Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa will begin greeting guests alongside Chewbacca and sequel-era characters.

This will be a day long remembered. Darth Vader arrives in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge® at Disneyland® Park beginning April 29. Read more about the exciting enhancements coming at Disney Parks Blog and StarWars.com.

Disneyland Resort confirmed its Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge timeline shift launches April 29, 2026. Walt Disney World Resort hasn’t announced when Disney’s Hollywood Studios will implement the changes.
